ORIGINAL: eliotRosewster quote:
I never took someone asking me what I want for dinner as an accusation. And words DO have tone. If you go to college and take some business courses, you will learn all about it. I'm guessing you haven't had any higher education and have never taken a class in communication, literature, or writing. As I said before, yes they do and don't have tone. You glanced over this part of the message where I admitted that yes, they do. I'm going to give you a list of words. You tell me which tones they produce. If you are correct and words produce a tone, you should be able to tell me what tone they produce. Apple Banana Shit Tower Butternut squash Run Smoke But you won't be able to tell me what tones those words produce. Single words produce no tone. It's how those words that are arranged which give it any tone whatsoever. Even still going from zero tone in a single word to some sort of tone in a sentence they have room for interpretation. The reader can put their own spin on the tone. Something that wasn't intended to be accusational might become son. They do not have the same tone as talking does. Talking has a clear tone, you can tell if somebody is angry or happy, regardless of what words they are saying. Words do not have the same tone as talking. So, in other words, I was dead on.
