OP: you're over analyzing this. She obviously didn't like you or your profile, and right or wrong, you evoked a childish pissy reply from her. I don't think your approach was very friendly, and was out of context for a first email. But hey, you say it works for you, so more power to you.

Re your reception here. This is the interwebs! Lot's of butt-weird dynamics going on here. It didn't help that you replied to the blank profile with a manifesto, or that you're a man and it was a woman. Hey, that's just the way it is.

Thanks man. It's appreciated.

It's like we're making the same argument but in different ways. I've all ready been saying, YES. I agree with you. But you're not recognizing that text has short comings for communication.

Text does have it's shortcomings.
However, carefully chosen words can convey a good portrait of who you are.

The man who became Master to me sent me a cmail that asked interesting questions based on my profile.
His initial contact was engaging.
That was over 3 years ago.

JanahX -> RE: I need to vent and you might find this funny (5/2/2012 4:26:33 PM)

Of course your not. Because Ive made the point of how to write tone and you didnt even come close.

wrong once again.

THIS is how someone puts tone in their words. Or how do you like thisssss? or you can always do something like THIS --->

No one was referring to single words - only YOU WERE. Also, piss poor examples - of words to use tone with. That shit didnt even make any sense - !

You've completely missed the point I was trying to make. Yes, you can do things with bolding, underlined, and italics. I've agreed with you on your point that you can have a tone with text in multiple points, but my argument is that text is horrible for tone. You're only seeing things from your perspective and not even trying to understand the point I was trying to make. I'm done bickering with you. I'm not going to respond to any your posts.

I haven't been copy and pasting it.

So far it's been working for me. Except for the odd times like this. I think I'll start copy and pasting it with it written more clearly.

Correction noted. Don't start.

SOoooooooooooooooo, those words had a tone, but yours didn't or were misunderstood?

Ok, we're loosing focus here. I've said this before in here multiple times now.

When you speak, you have a tone to your words. Written text is missing that tone. I can say nothing but gibberish and it will have a tone. If I write gibberish it looses all tone.

But words have meaning. You can gleam some sort of tone to them. But the reader can also add a tone to them. There is a level of interpretation.

I feel like I'm saying the same thing over and over again.

Now I can just say something mean to you. I could call you a bitch, or many other nasty words. There isn't much interpretation for those. Unless of course you're on a BDSM website, I could say "You're such a slut!" which might be taken nicely, or not.

I don't know where I'm going with this anymore. I've given up. I succumb, do with me as you wish.

Thank you Angelika! You're the first one to agree that text can have short comings. You are correct, I'm clearly not choosing the correct words, and I'm writing things poorly. I will fix this for the future.

I've been writing two paragraph messages. I think I'll make the first part as a copy and paste, and the second part tailored to the person. I've been basically the same thing in the first part over and over again, but with different words. If I keep on typing it out off the top of my head I'll rush it and make myself look like an ass, like I did in here.

Dude I think you should reconsider focusing exclusively on newbs because quite a number can be fakes that are soon to be deleted or just testing the D/s waters. Seasoned members will often know what they want to a much greater extent and probably be more willing to play in RL.

Also munches tend to be pretty respectful affairs. I've never heard of doms pulling rank Story of O-ish style but then again I haven't attended them in your part of the world.

quote:

ORIGINAL: eliotRosewster
As I said before, yes they do and don't have tone. You glanced over this part of the message where I admitted that yes, they do.

I'm going to give you a list of words. You tell me which tones they produce. If you are correct and words produce a tone, you should be able to tell me what tone they produce.

Apple
Banana
Shit
Tower
Butternut squash
Run
Smoke

But you won't be able to tell me what tones those words produce. Single words produce no tone. It's how those words that are arranged which give it any tone whatsoever. Even still going from zero tone in a single word to some sort of tone in a sentence they have room for interpretation. The reader can put their own spin on the tone. Something that wasn't intended to be accusational might become son.

They do not have the same tone as talking does. Talking has a clear tone, you can tell if somebody is angry or happy, regardless of what words they are saying. Words do not have the same tone as talking.

The point wasn't so much made about single words as you used sentences in the message, and most of those words you picked here are nouns that would have a neutral meaning because they are simply things, except maybe shit as in which clearly has a hostile tone. Of course thats a swear word but many conventional words can have a distinctive tone, e.g. "actually" has a corrective feel to it that when used in various contexts can be unpleasant. I agree though that there is a lot of interpretation from the reader as well.

I am patiently waiting for someone to bring the funny.

I would suggest oscillating between several pre-written messages when contacting women for the first time - its good to mix 'em up, and adopt different styles, for example:

The primitivist Homo Neanderthalensis approach:
“you whore, Me great Master. Me carry you off now…”

The ubber-macho approach:
“Shut up cunt! Nothing will come out of your mouth except the gobs of cum you cannot choke down, and the peeling residue of My cheesy knob-rot, adding to the experience…”

Neanderthal man is traditionally considered to be THE caveman.

Unfortunately, Anax failed to cover my frequent cmail encounters: "Me slave, me want to be your dog. "

Quite naturally, this is accompanied by a cock shot.

Yeah thats what I meant. Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis existed in the Middle East and Europe for 100,000 or more years before dying out around 20,000 years ago. They were known for having a very robust frame that could withstand extreme cold. Some think they were at least twice as strong as modern humans. Neanderthals were a sort of equivalent of the images of cave men in cartoons etc. so now some people (women especially) refer to crude unsophisticated men as Neanderthals. Its a bit ironic because they actually had bigger brains than modern humans but didn't compete as well for food as modern humans - who are called Homo Sapiens Sapiens - translating from Latin as "very wise man".

I'd guess it's the cock shot that's intended to help convey the tone of the note. [:D]

It was more about dom males approaching sub females but the omission was still unacceptable! Prospective subs could add "Big lolling tongue good for special place. Go pee-pee now..."

DesFIP -> RE: I need to vent and you might find this funny (5/3/2012 9:26:21 AM)

Having read the op's profile, I agree with the young lady's assessment of him. I don't like his attitude either.

You write to a stranger and demand she tells you about herself. You don't first offer up anything about yourself.

But most of all, your profile, which is all we have to know you by, tells us nothing about you. Only about your sex fantasies.

The Man and I have a good sex life, but that's not why we got together. We had things in common that made us want to talk to each other. We talked about all of our lives, not just sex.

Honestly op, with that kind of first message, I'm surprised anyone would ever write you back. I would expect most women you write to check your profile and then block you without responding.

This is the second time this has happened to me. Hopefully you'll find this funny.

So I see a girl has joined the site with no profile. So I send her this message, which is similar to most of my first contact messages:

quote:

First off I need to say that I'm a gentleman. It's only when a sub submits to me that I will change. I believe that behavior is earned by the sub. Also if you expect me to say "Bow down to my glorious cock!" you will be disappointed.

Now with that out of the way. Tell me more about yourself. What are you looking for on here? A 24/7 TPE? A long term equal relationship? Random play partners?

She replies back with:

quote:

lol, whatever...I'm not interested in little boys with attitude and bad manners and no respect...ciao

I go to reply back to her to ask her where I was rude, and she has me blocked! I think I need to change my initial message to "CAN YOU READ AT A GRADE 5 READING LEVEL!?!"

Ya know what?

Her eyes were too close together....sure sign of criminal neglect.

Her profile was empty. I had no idea what kind of girl she was. Just 21 years old.

She fucked me last night. Hard. Told her friends as well....I got chics lining up.

Don't know what you did wrong but, she was swinging from the damn power poles for me.
