Although your post was worded in a somewhat off-putting/creepy manner (I agree with poise here--why does the dog being female make a difference?,)

Because dominant men tend to be sexist. There, I said it.

Which sounds very mean, but sometimes a water pistol is the only thing a cat will understand.

I use it, since they tend to claw on the wood door frame that leads to my bedroom

Yeah, I got that they think they own me. Do they have to tell the physical world?

It's not mean, it doesn't hurt them and they tend to have a stubborn streak, and yes, cats own you, they will also do tricks and come for walks (don't ask me what kind of looks I get when I go for a walk with 2 dogs and one or two cats, the cats just tag along), come when called, but I had them from little kittens on, the big boy was the runt of the litter and the mom didn't want him so I bottle raised him, he does behave like a dog before he ever came in touch with dogs, his brother just follows him around in the hope to get food (we also call him The Mouth)

lol, i never would have thought of that perspective, perhaps because i'm a dominant man, and it's always harder to think of how others may be seeing you. before i came to this site, i might have agreed with you.

another really funny thing - i thought the OP was a female, because i don't usually look at the gender of who i'm replying to; i don't want gender to affect how i relate to and deal with people online so much. dunno why i thought OP was female either.

i didn't see anything as sexist though. just very odd.

Actually, it makes a difference in training the dog, they have slightly different behaviour patterns and how they react, male dogs usually need more guidance and a bit of a more firm hand, in most packs the alpha is male so it can be a bit more of a power struggle, with females, there is usually less testing of boundaries and they are more eager to please.

I love dogs so much, but my father was a true nut case.
he made sure that if we love a dog he would kill it!! I am
so uncomfortable even now as an adult, it is somethng we
still have nightmare about! He was the Nazi Doctor for dogs!
I could never see using a dog to tell a tale of training a person, nor some
humans whom train dogs badly I am sure this is too personal for here but it was
just something I needed to say!!!!!Mons

This made me laugh! :P No i don't take offense to Your post, i find the humor in the post refreshing to those who seem to take themselves so seriously...and no i'm not so obtuse as to think You meant You treat humans like dogs and if You did that's Your business and i'm sure the women who agreed would be loving it ;)

And yes, i see the similarities... :)

All I see in this thread are submissive women getting all fucking butthurt about a guy noting the similarities when trying to train people or animals to do specific things. To do it successfully you have to be strong, in command and assertive. Dogs AND people do not follow those they do not respect, that's pretty much what the man is trying to say, and all you ladies can think is "OMG HE JUST COMPARED ME TO A DOG GRR ANGRY AND HURT RESPONSES"

Nobody is comparing women to dogs, all he is saying is the kind of commanding presence he has with training his dog as with training submissive women. And besides, any of you gals out there ever been trained to BE submissive at all? No? Then this doesn't even fucking apply to you, so why so damn mad?

Then clearly, you have a vision problem. Tha majority of posters in this thread are Dominant women,
and some of the submissive women that did post also found favor in the comparison.

Then that begs the question: why are dominant women posting their opinions about something that doesn't even apply to them at all? That seems like they are just looking for a fight or something.

The man was simply musing about the similarities, yet everyone is acting like he said "they are treated the same." If someone said clouds look a lot like marshmallows, would you get all crazy and yell at them for being moronic because clouds are so much bigger and made of water and taste NOTHING like marshmallows? No, you'd be like "yea they kinda do look like marshmallows" Why? Because the parallel is fucking obvious.

Sheesh.

Did you think that dominant women bought their subs ready made from a catalog?

I did overgeneralize a bit, there were quite a few female dominants chiming in at least understanding what the OP was trying to talk about. Just those first few posts were so aggravating I jumped ahead a little bit too much. I apologize for that. I just hate seeing someone get torn down for literally no reason, and it's been kind of a common occurence i've been seeing as of late (outside of here that is).

Perhaps you have missed My point.

Those who are unqualified and inexperienced come along and make this comparison.  Nothing screams louder than saying one has not trained humans should they wish to compare to dogs.  If one can not distinguish the difference, it is possible that they have not come far enough along in their own journey.

I wish you peace.

Because we can and it's an open discussion board, DUH! You couldn't figure that one out yourself, could you?

In case you were thinking that we do need your permission for anything, you better start working on that whole thinking thing again, you haven't really gotten the gist of it....

In case you also haven't figured it out, those "gals" (even if they are submissive) might be submissive to somebody they WANT to be submissive to, they're not doormats for anybody who calls himself a dominant, in short they aren't submissive to the OP or you. You know personally I wouldn't want a submissive who was "trained" to be submissive to anything who slaps a label on himself, I aim a bit higher...

You can't be trained to have different personality traits. Or do you think you could be trained to be submissive, assuming you are dominant?

You can teach specific skills, but not how someone will feel about you.

Beyond that, not all dogs are alike. We've had horses and each one is its own person, which means it responds better to different stimulae and approaches.

What you call a commanding presence, is what I call an asshole. I respond to quiet confidence not a fake tone used to get obedience. You either can inspire that in a person or you can't. No amount of training will change it.
