Masticator -> RE: What? No Elizabeth Warren thread? (5/5/2012 4:29:06 PM)

I find it odd that you guys are still in debate with the OP. He clearly is not forming critical opinions and so there is no basis, in my opinion, to even try to converse further. If he's not willing to form a critical opinion, then you're just arguing with someone who will pretty much say/twist anything to suit himself. Sounds boring and useless.

What's that one saying about fools? Something like "Change a fool's mind against his will, a fool he will remain still." ??

Edited to add......
(Well, maybe it was just curiosity on your parts to see what would happen next. I find I'm similarly inquisitive!!)

The very fact that you [OP] would attempt to pull this one over on those reading this thread is appalling.

If the continued debate is for the sake of the readers... that I can understand completely. But I'd like to imagine that you've already presented sufficient evidence to educate those who value facts over gossip. [sm=applause.gif]

What's the issue about calling a consumer protection advocate on false advertising?

My opinions on your opinions......... [;)]

My father always taught me it was a matter of honor and integrity to admit when I was wrong. There's nothing weak about being incorrect, there is only weakness in being too insecure to acknowledge that when it's adequately proven.

You contended that she was falsely advertising herself we shouldn't embrace her/her ideas on consumer protection.

With the facts presented, I think it's an awesome opportunity to just simply admit that you made some presumptions and they were incorrect.

Nothing wrong with that. How you conduct yourself there after is the relevant part now.

Cherokee tribes make the determination on lineal descent, or, by a 1/16 standard.

Not to mention you read your own citation incorrectly. The Cherokee do NOT use a 1/16 standard. I'm surprised you didn't know that:

Tribes requiring 1/16 degree blood quantum for membership
(equivalent to one great-great-grandparent)

Caddo Nation[26]
Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon
Fort Sill Apache Tribe[26]
Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma[26]
Sac and Fox Nation, Oklahoma
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, North Carolina
Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians

That you feel more Cherokee than Warren is your opinion only.

Where the fuck did you come up with this nonsense? I've made no such assertion, and hold no such sentiment.

For the record... I believe it was when you pompously said this:

"1/32? C'mon. That's a fetish at best, or a fraud, not an ethnicity. I'm more Cherokee and Chickasaw than that."

The eastern band are the descendants of the guys who hid from federal troops when the rest of the tribe was forced to walk to Oklahoma. They are very picky about who they consider a member.

The Cherokee Nation is the vast bulk of the tribe with its capital in Oklahoma. The nation traces lineal ancestry and doesn't concern itself with what fraction Cherokee someone is.

Ah. I see the problem. Arrogance, and ignorant assumptions. I'm an American white dude, dude. It's pretty common knowledge. I was mocking, not speaking from the high horse.

For her to claim minority status on official documents, not to have an affectation about it mind you, not to personally celebrate and explore it, but to list herself that way in the directory, and be claimed by Harvard as an example of their diversity, is misleading at the very best. Since she holds herself up as a champion of consumer rights, I think it's a perfectly fair to question her in terms of false advertising on this.

I heard Mitt Romney's great great great Grandfather was poor, that should buy him some street cred with the middle class, right?

Every bit it bought Barack Obama having grown up poor.

If you are referring to the Mexican Romneys ... they weren't poor BTW ... you need to go back further.
But how do ya really know?

I'm from Massachusetts, trust me,,, I can say with authority that it DOESN'T.

In fact, I have for the last 20 years found the detachment from the actual economic realities of the people he keeps trying to rule.

The only parallel I can think of people could universally recognize would be like Thurston Howell 3rd on Gilligan's Island (sort of works since "Lovie", the wife, makes statements a lot like Anne, only with a smattering of Rich Woman's Alzheimers)... The only real life icon I can think of that universal enough to have everyone recognize would be Trump... The problem with him being he actually worked part of the way up... before he must started muscling people out of their property to achieve his goals.

Not only is it a bullshit claim, the video is completely patronizing!!! "Oh we are all lilly white except for that one Indian who gave some of us the high beautiful cheekbones! What's next? Will she be proclaiming she's Jewish too because Cherokees are really Jews too?

Perhaps someone who has experience CLAIMING to be a cop should step in and coach her.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: What? No Elizabeth Warren thread? (5/6/2012 5:27:49 PM)

Ya know... it strikes me, I rarely see the right leaning posters accuse people about lying about who they are, the military service or police, firefighting or other types of such service but there are a number of left leaning posters use "so called" and "CLAIMING" or outright state people who they disagree with are liars.

Warren stretched the truth to its limits on this one and then gave ridiculously patronizing response.

The woman got caught for exaggerating her family history, something she's been doing for professional and political reasons for years AND THEN, she made it worse with that idiotic statement.

FOR BUDDAH'S SAKE LEFTIES CALL HE ON IT!!!

OH... and no... but but but "FILL IN OPPOSITION NAME HERE" retorts, have some intellectual honesty.

Nah, she's been lying to you fools in Massivetwoshits for years, she doesn't need my help... Got proof I'm not a cop?

Hmm, Stern Skipper... Sounds like you like to bugger guys in the stern, which is perfectly cool, for this site.

WTF do I even CARE if you're a cop? If you are, you sure as shit ain't much of one... all last fall running you mouth on how you support police brutality and talking about milking OT.

But...
You're missing some key clues here. A) I'm not a Warren supporter and in fact work right now for a different candidate.
b)You go on and on about and issue that was resolved last Wednesday by a genealogist who located a government document that an ancestor listed herself as "cherokee". People have been trying to get that across to you and your friend Rich who keep going on and on about some alleged 'false advertising'.

Nah, if I buggered guy's I'd have you following me around, wouldn't I? <wink>

What's really hysterical is you're getting all jerked off and there's literally NO ONE all your caterwauling will ever reach in terms of the election. Nobody who votes in the state of Massachusetts even reads what you type.
In all your frothy mix, you have missed that with the exception of Presidential Politics, I stay the fuck out of the electoral process of other states. WHY? Cause I don't want to be an ineffective, ignorant fucking ferret who people regard as noting more than a piece of shit interloper.
But some people like that perception. Perhaps it's a submissive thing.

Whatever bud... I guess you don't read much around here because there's plenty of questioning of credentials.
I know of one right-leaning chap who accused me of not growing up in RI.
But whatever. Spare me the arbiter of whatever shit... not biting. Let Rob finish his own

BY THE WAY... You don't get news where you come from?
The fact is, on Wednesday of last week a genealogist cited a document an ancestor listed herself as "cherokee". The controversy was over on May 2nd... it just takes a long time to sink in with Rich, and I guees you as well. "Intellectual honesty" ... OH PLEASE... you guys started gurgling the day after fox started misusing it. And what's really funny is that you you guys have been flapping about Harvard... and Guenin is a professor there.
Anyway ... It's a fact Elizabeth Warren is 1/32 or whatever the percentage is ... Cherokee. It's been proven.
Now how about we talk about how Scott Brown made a HUGE ISSUE about how he would avoid personal attacks and reporters have acknowledged that they were prodded and accused of not pursuing the issue all last weekend and up until Wednesday afternoon. What Intellectually Honest remarks do you have regarding Brown's failure to keep his word?

Here's a problem you wouldn't run into, if you weren't too afraid to look in the mirror in the morning, after reading my posts, Sternskipper. (You could also consider staying off the threads started by people whose thoughts and ideas cause you such distress.) I acknowledged the ancestor in the first words of the first post, and have contended all along that officially labeling herself as Native American, based on a 1/32 connection, and some claim of vague curiousity about meeting others "like her," was bullshit.

Since Ms. Warren is an expert in consumer protection, framing this nonsense in a "false advertising" approach seems appropriate to me.

Have a nice night.
