Thanks for the link dcnovice. When I wrote the OP I hadn't heard of this, or the effort in Tennessee (thanks kalikshama).

Far from being "an attack on 1/2 of the US population", as someone has hysterically claimed, it appears that clones of the Russian law are already being proposed in the US by, you've guessed it, "far right demagogues" who in an astonishing coincidence, just happen to be GOP members (precisely as the OP predicted).

Looks like I won't have to invest in a crystal ball

I think you are right on that. But the article was a good chance to take a shot at 1/2 of the US and sometimes that is all that matters.

1/2....really? Care to cite a source for that statistic?

I feel compelled to point out that just because there are two options doesn't mean that they are both 50%. Also that there are more than just the two options on this one.
