I'm surprised the 'tinfoil hat crowd' hasn't posted this yet.

Wired magazine gives more detailed description of the new Utah center: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/03/ff_nsadatacenter/all/1
No doubt they spy on citizens illegally for long time. Interesting development is Bush and now Obama administrations work hard to make it all legal. It is a matter of personal judgment and how one sees the future developments what actions to take to protect yourself.  Soviet Union spied on everybody, but at the end all of this was mostly useless waste. I think there is a good probability the US government effort ends the same way: the economy will collapse and these expensive programs will go to garbage dump.

FR

I guess it's a good thing that a guy like Obama, who cares so much about college students, and the middle class is campaigning for reelection... I mean, just try to imagine where we'd be if the Republicans actually ran anything![8|]

Hillwilliam -> RE: More government spying proposed (5/8/2012 5:39:22 PM)

Anyone else remember Yakov Smirnoff?

One of his best jokes was "In America, you watch TV. In Soviet Union, TV watches you"

It's now happening here.

That's easy ... THE FRONT END OF THE MESS WE'RE IN.

However, that said WTF does anything you just said REALLY have to do with the topic.
Or is this just "Enter Thread / Insert BS" Night?

CELL PHONE (FBI can listen to you when phone is turned off)

and another HUGE problem is the government using their ability to regulate corporations so they use them by proxy to demand they gather certain information from people.

one very obvious one is the collection of taxes from your check, that the corps have no "legitimate" authority to interfere with what so ever.

Its HUGE!

The Russkies made much better boogeymen than the Ayrabs as well...

The US Government is ALREADY copying EVERY SINGLE BIT which traverses the core internet routers, so I'm not exactly sure how you get MORE surveillance when everything we say and type is archived.

Yeah except for the small number of Cheech & Chong characters it's given up I'd say we got screwed.
Another place where the Brits and Yanks have something to lament in common.
Course we should look on the bright side we probably wouldn't have Sasha Baron Cohen without a peculiar series of world events and historical influences... Hakuna Matatta!

Moonhead -> RE: More government spying proposed (5/9/2012 6:47:03 AM)

Not really sure that's a good thing. All of his characters since Ali G are crap, and leave deeply obnoxious aftertaste. (Unlike Ali, who was occasionally funny, despite leaving a deeply obnoxious aftertaste.)

I've been in the "Who gives a fuck anymore, I'll just be a little more careful what I say" category for a good 7 or 8 years now.
I actually enjoy watching the nitwits waking the fuck up in MID-BITCH about 'nanny states' to find out they're getting a proctcological exam from the GREAT GRANDSON of Echelon. I got tired of being laughed at in 02 when I got laughed at for sternly warning a kid @ big blue not to talk about weed on his weekly support call with his college chum who worked at a nuke plant. Duration of career? 6 months.
Fuck em Fargle ... they are getting the exact show they bought the ticket for. And now 'festival seating' this time.

Next step is a subscription program... kind of like JenniCam of the 90s.
I hope we get a commission when it's all said and done. God knows, I've really hard turning my personal life into a trainwreck.[8D]

..^^THIS^^..

I stopped voting in my 20s in good part due to privacy (lack there of) issues.. at least in Canada there are (better) privacy laws.. the US, ya'll gave it up decades ago.. And yeah,.. they have been going thru everyones email all along, you think they are just looking for terrorists? It would not surprise me in the least if the IRS didnt also get notified when someone uses certain words.. The US govt uses terrorism to be able to let the IRS more easily investigate people they think arent paying all their taxes..

I guess that makes me one of the tin foil crowd too, huh??? [:D]
