Born in Iowa, and represents Minnesota, where she has lived for many years (too many) so wherever did Wisconsin come from? (although I agree they are cheeseheads)

They are states that are side to side, but very very different in politic, although hers are more wisconsin than minnesotan in flavor.

I fuckin know, from LA, all you see is smog reports and 80 and sunny and big fucking blob in the center of the united states without borders and writing on that map on the old weather channel that says:

BITTERLY COLD

all winter.  I understand the faux pas. We are used to it.  But we do exist.  In fact today (5/11) is our birthday into the united states (of which we certainly are citizens of)

Should someone who obtains dual citizenship later in life be allowed to hold a high national office? Could they possibly be holding the interests of the US above all others?

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/michele-bachmann-becomes-swiss-citizen-054706406.html

IIRC, the US does not recognize dual citizenship. Apparently the Swiss do. So she is really only a dual citizen to the Swiss.

ummm.. maybe she knows something many Americans don't.. the writing on the wall, perhaps??? No,.. no. she said it was fer the chocolate.. yeah... thats it..

When I move I am considering getting a second citizenship also.. I haven't decided exactly which yet.. have to look at the cost, the pros and cons and requirements of the most suitable ones.. My mother had German (by birth) and Canadian citizenship, but it didn't make her any less Canadian.. so I personally see nothing wrong with it.. but then I am also not in politics so..

If you want to move out of the US and not be required to still file a tax return with the IRS and pay tax in a country you no longer live in, the only way to do that is to get citizenship in another country and give up your US citizenship.. Maybe her and her hubby are planning to one day move permanently outside the US and do that.. I don't know why else she would want to do that.. I guess if that is her true reason, does that make her un-American or is it the American way (to find ways to pay less tax)?..

Did you even bother to read the article? It was only five short paragraphs.

"Congresswoman Bachmann's husband is of Swiss descent so she has been eligible for dual-citizenship since they got married in 1978," spokeswoman Becky Rogness said in a statement. "However, recently some of their children wanted to exercise their eligibility for dual-citizenship so they went through the process as a family."

I didn't think Americans could hold dual citizenship, so I'm glad to hear someone else say that.

I believe the US does recognize dual citizenship or, at least, they no longer force naturalized Americans to denounce their place of birth and surrender their passports.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

How about we just revoke her citizenship here? Apparently her loyalities are now questionable given this 'dual-citizenship'. I wonder if the people in her district are even aware of this; as they dont strike me as the lot whom are very open to new ideas, foreign alligences, or sounding.....liberal. Likewise, I too wonder if her becoming a swiss citizens allows her to retain being on the House Intelligence Committee. Since she is actually dumb enough to share the secrets of the USA with the swiss and not realize the depth of the action until its way to late. Better we revoke her citizenship, throw her out of Congress and out of the nation entirely. Before you balk at the idea, think about it. After a few weeks of the swiss listening to her typical rants and raves, they'll want to send her back to us. We'll negoitate only if they manager to drop all the foriegn debts we own to entities outside of America. We are rid of $6-8 Trillion dollars plus interest and they dont have to have such a foolish person in thier country.

But wait! That's the GOP secret plan all along! They know they can't have Romney battle Obama in a straight up fight over the economy; Romney will get...PWNED! Instead, they do all this, and look like the heroes for saving America from having to pay so much money and try to hid the history of *HOW* that large debt was generated in the first place. Think about it. It sounds absolutely silly and stupid, but than, isn't that the sort of thing we have come to observe from the GOP/TP?

Absolutely. A child with Canadian parents born in the U.S., for example, holds dual citizenship, unless renounced.

There are disadvantages to dual citizenship. For one, you are expected to pay taxes as required to both countries, and to obey draft/military participation laws.

I too, though, am surprised it's allowed in federal government without renouncing the other citizenship.

That person is a US citizen to the US. It's the other country that admits to both.

LOL Her kids going thru it is no reason for her to also go thru it, they are old enough that they dont need her to hold their hand for something like that.. especially since she so easily changed her mind only 2 days later,.. Her kids having dual citizenship gives them options most people dont have.. Switzerland is not an easy country to get citizenship in, so I can understand the kids wanting to do that..

Personally I find it amusing.. especially the flip flop.. She is not too bright if she didnt realize the press was going to pick up on it and she would get some flak for being un-American..
