If CA tried to do what going in WI, then CA would have the second worst jobs rate in the country because WI has the worst.

Care to clarify that, or to somehow back it up?
Because I think it's made-up horseshit.
Change my opinion.......

servantforuse -> RE: And the hole gets deeper (5/14/2012 11:07:29 AM)

The March 2012 unemployment rate for WI is 6.8 %. CA is 11.8 %.. Jerry 'moon beam' Brown's suggestion for fixing this, tax the rich. What a novel idea.

Actually California's finances are reflective of libertarian tax policy, especially prop 13, mixing with a state where it is politically impossible to cut government services to a level equal to that of 1925.

prop 13? dont worry yer purdy head about that, the cities and counties make up for it since they charge to the max when it comes to new homes.. in Inland Empire you will pay about $50,000 in impact and 2-3 pages of other fees before you can get a building permit.. Riverside county you even get charge a fee/tax to save the rats.. i kid you not.. you could end up paying more in impact fees than your crummy lil city lot cost you.. One county wanted to charge a couple $250,000 in impact and other fees to build a $500,000 house on their acreage.. they were taken to court and it ended up being reduced to just under $10k.. If you want to put a solar system on your house in dana point the city wants $14,000 for the permit to do just that.. so much for being green.. [8|] and if you want to look at how taxpayer dollars are managed.. read up on what happened in Bell, CA.. the various city officials were arrested and thrown in jail for screwing taxpayers beyond belief.. greed & corruption of cities and govt knows no bounds in CA imo.. Just sayin' [;)]

Ever hear of PJ Morgan ?

LOS ANGELES — The state budget shortfall in California has increased dramatically in the last six months, forcing state officials to assemble a series of new spending cuts that are likely to mean further reductions to schools, health care and other social programs already battered by nearly five years of budget retrenchment, state officials announced on Saturday.

“We are now facing a $16 billion hole, not the $9 billion we thought in January,” Mr. Brown said. “This means we will have to go much further and make cuts far greater than I asked for at the beginning of the year.”

[...] he aggressively accounted for the steps he said he had taken to try to scale back a $26 billion deficit he found upon taking office. And he urged viewers to back an initiative he is putting on the November ballot that would increase sales taxes by 0.25 percent and impose an income tax surcharge on wealthy Californians to try to stave off more cuts.

So Cali has an increasing shortfall. Gotta pay for it. But just what is being paid for in the first place? Why, those very things that created the shortfall. So just how does one go about paying for it? Why, the same way its been paid for for years. Problem is, people will only go so far till they vote with their feet. For those who cannot, enjoy the sales tax increase and cuts to the trough.

In the short run Cali can do what it says it needs to do and therefore project a savings against the shortfall. Problem solved. At least on paper. But, why isn't it the $9b thought in January? Why doesn't what's on paper equal reality?

Here's a bit of reality for Cali. I foresee rising shoe sales. That should help a little, or not.

Were you unaware that brown inhereted these problms from a republicrat govornor and a republicrat president?

California finances look like typical American left wing case to me: expansion of the government, high taxes, ever expanding regulations, corruption in public sector destroying the prosperity. Perhaps most agree potentially California could be the most prosperous and fiscally sound state with agriculture, aerospace industry, high-tech and entertainment.

Were you not aware that a republicrat govornor preceeded brown?
Were you not aware that the recession started while arnold was gov.?

servantforuse -> RE: And the hole gets deeper (5/14/2012 5:47:25 PM)

Any governor can do nothing without a majority in the state house to back him up. CA ihas been run by liberal democrats for a very long time. That 16 billion deficiet they now have is just part of their problems.

California has 12% of the US population, and a third of the nation's welfare caseload. Our state university system has more full-time administrators than it has full-time teachers. Special interests dominate Sacramento. Brown's idea of a "budget cut" is to move the billing from the state, to the local jurisdictions, by way of unfunded mandates.

"It's the bureaucracy, stupid," to paraphrase Carville.

It would appear that baldy has not heard that the economy was in the toilet

To get that mess straightened out, CA will have to do what Wisconsin is doing. I'm guessing it won't happen.

How would giving tax payer money to croneys and shilling for campaign funds help California?

I believe he's talking about forcing public unions to pay a miniscule portion of their over inflated salaries for benefits... But you knew that, and as long as Cali is burdened with public union pensions, they'll never get above water.

Cali's budgetary problem has nothing to do with referendums, it's all on the Dem's and the unions they supported, much to the determent of the non union citizens.

This from an alleged cop who belongs to a cop union.
How bout your state removes your union and cuts your pay in half.
That seems to be what you are asking for.

It has already been explained to you how to solve that problem so your post is quite disingenuous.

Who in the world would want the job of Gov of Cal?

You are joking right?
Isn't california like the tenth largest economy in the world?
And you want to know who would like to be govornor of the tenth largest economy on the planet?
Do you ever think before you post this moronic drivel?

Hey,.. I am dead serious..You cant make this shite up!.. there is a rat that lives primarily in riverside county and there is a rat mitigation fee charge of about $150/new house included in the long list of fees to get a building permit there.. I have seen the friggin list of fees, taxes, charges.. and its in there.. When i first saw the fee i thought it was to get rid of the rats,... but no, its there to help save/preserve them... It might be a really cute rat,.. but its still a frikin rat..

What is the Stephens' Kangaroo Rat Preservation fee?
The Stephens' Kangaroo Rat is listed as a threatened, endangered species by the State of California and the California Department of Fish and Game. The Stephens' Kangaroo Rat Preservation fee is imposed to develop, prepare and implement a Habitat Conservation Plan provides protection for the species and guarantees its survival. Since the City is situated within the historic range of the Stephens' Kangaroo Rat, such fee is required to comply with the state and federal legislation per Riverside Municipal Code 16.40.040.

The unemployment rate in WI is 6.8 % which is certainly not the worst in the country. The 3.3 billion dollar deficiet this state had just a year ago is gone. A surplus is projected for the coming year. Scott Walker and the republicans went through hell and back last year but they had the stones to do what needed to be done.

And your freaking governor has chased away over 23,000 PRIVATE sector jobs from the state from March 2011-March 2012.

Absolutely, prove me wrong... I said when I sold insurance, I was a member of a union, a private firm union... I was never a member of a public sector, or police union.
