Yea, I don't get all geared up. If I am doing an online session, not at all. Now I won't look like I just woke up, but I'm not trying to be Miss America. When I first get up, I usually get dressed and go on about My day. Now if I am doing a real time session, then yes, I enjoy the leather and such, but online, not so much.

Hmmm, might that be laziness,lol.

But of course.

Soyokaze -> RE: Photoshop (5/14/2012 3:20:23 AM)

I adjust the brightness/contrast on all of my pictures. Sometimes I'll apply filters to try to save pictures since my phone camera isn't good. I use gimp though.

Shoot, I'm just grateful if I can get the picture posted.

From a photographer's perspective.

I can bring a person in, set up, put them in a few different clothing options and take shots in 10 different locations at my place. IF I wanted, with lighting and camera angles, I could give you shots that would look like several different people. Hell, just a slight tilt of the head can make a huge difference.

The only photoshop I use on my own photos is usually cropping. I might adjust lighting if it's too dark or something like that. For other people, depending upon what they want, I often times walk a fine line in helping them look their best without changing them or misrepresenting who they are. Most will never have a clue what I've done to their portrait. They won't know that I softened a few wrinkles, got rid of a few age spots, whitened their teeth just a bit, softened the glare on their balding head, or eased a muffin top. Most people don't see themselves realistically, either for better or worst.

On here, the group of people the OP was whining about......I don't believe they WANT to be 'themselves'. I see it as a role they are playing for one or more of several possible goals.

Photoshop with portraits is to me, like plastic surgery. It's an agreement between the photographer and client. Most people want to look their best. A few people are comfortable with misrepresenting themselves to feel better or, just misrepresent. A very few, just do not care at all.

I don't see any way as right or wrong. If you look at a photo that looks too good to be true.........it generally is.

Another thing most people do not consider. Photos, unless taken by a very good photographer, rarely show the personality of a person. How many times have we seen a photo that totally did not portray a person as we see them, in person. (A week ago I was trying like hell to photography a gorgeous young woman. Out of 30+ shots, maybe 2 came close to conveying her beauty. Something that was immediately obvious upon seeing her in person.) Some people, their beauty just doesn't translate well via still photography. Some people, the ugliness or emptiness of their core, is successfully masked by a winning and photogenic smile.

Myself, I don't particularly care about photos on here. Sure, I enjoy eye candy as much as the next person but I prefer to get a feel of a person via their words. If there isn't any soul of who they are, being conveyed, then all those photos are is just that, eye candy. Empty calories.

RumpusParable -> RE: Photoshop (5/14/2012 1:46:19 PM)

OP, the shocking reality is that on a day-to-day basis most females dress and make themselves up in a day-to-day fashion. They aren't on cam in a manner that they're getting paid to look glam'ed up. They're there to converse with others who look day-to-day.

If you want someone to look like they're getting paid to turn you on, you're generally gonna have to pay.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Photoshop (5/14/2012 1:47:19 PM)

It's good to be pretty, that's all I'm saying. [;)]

RumpusParable -> RE: Photoshop (5/14/2012 1:51:03 PM)

Oh, and to my personal looks on cam: I look like hell on cam unless I spend a considerable amount of time and effort on changing my skin tone and having my hair freshly dyed. I have a cool-toned, pale complexion that unless I makeup to make it darker/warmer just looks washed out and sickly on a cam. But, as I said above, unless I'm getting paid to look gussied-up, I don't bother with it... I don't expect others to look like models on cams, I expect them to look like people on webcameras look (not their best and usually somewhat grainy).

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Photoshop (5/14/2012 1:52:50 PM)

It's true my pallor takes on a whiter shade of pale on cam... but that's how it goes, eh?

LadyConstanze -> RE: Photoshop (5/14/2012 2:03:00 PM)

LOL, and on a laptop the lense usually looks straight up your nose and gets you from an angle where it looks like you have several chins... I guess we now have to buy top equipment as well so we do not offend somebody's delicate sensibilities

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Photoshop (5/14/2012 2:50:56 PM)

I just practise leaning in various positions...
