If they excluded Brittany Spears as a topic, probably because the study focused on News.

That's *Britney* Spears, MM. Don't you know anything about the crucial issues of our times?

No.

I do not miss TV!

Take my advice and don't click the link if you've eaten recently. One of the prominent posts on the article is a video entitled "Barbara Walters talks about losing her virginity"

Gee and I'd be expecting Roger Ebert to be the one talking about that... In the context of reviewing a HORROR Flick.

Well, it seems MSNBC and FOX news do more damage than good. A new nationwide study found FOX and MSNBC viewers knew less about the news than people who do not watch any news at all..

The most informed people, watch The Daily Show and listened to NPR

I turned off that crap more than twenty years ago, all of it. I didn't need a 'study' to figure that out. NPR is the worst crap on the planet, by way of ubiquitous shoving everything else out of the way.

The local public radio that has aspirations of playing good classical music is imposed upon by the 'public good' aspirations of relentless NPR; five hours in the morning, five hours in the afternoon and into the evening.

Don't give me this crap about NPR being more 'accurate' drama queens than Fox. They are all just political drama queens at the end of the day. They all interfere with and obfuscate what is relevant in life.

Yep. And then I thought "And this SURPRISES YOU?!?!?! Have you SEEN Fox News?!?!?".
I finally changed what part of the gym I work out in, just so I can avoid it being on in front of me.

It hasn't been a total loss. Their most ardent viewers have learned courtesy of Shawn Hannity to be rude, oppressive and unencumbered by facts.

Ultimately, you know FOX is a ratings whore, look at their coverage of the Casey Anthony trial. They didn't even discuss what was happing anywhere else in the world during that trial. It is more or less pop-culture reporting for the Bible-beating christian right. Same with MSNBC for the left.

My news gathering works like this:
Morning - Anywhere from 2 - 5 US News Papers - Skipping over to a foreign one if there's reason to (foreign story needing their spin generally).
Then once I have had my coffee, made a few opener business calls, and I am good and PUKE Proof I start reading this and two other forums.
(usually, nothing much comes of this part)

During the workday, I'll browse to individual stories as I learn about their existence. Also CNN Noon report.

Sometimes I'll watch a bit of fox news for LAUGHS.

Evening - NBC Nightly News, PBS Business and World Reports.
And again Fox sometimes.

I never take Fox even remotely seriously, since it's one poisoned watering hole. And recently, I wonder who's holding the controlling shares at CNN.
MSNBC - I never even bother It's a poor spoof of my late evening new ON COMEDY CENTRAL ... which is among the more accurate.

Either the poll makes no sense or Huff and Puff screwed things up.

The article starts out saying people usually could answer 1.8 foreign news And 1.6 domestic news correctly.

Then they say Fox could only get 1.04 domestic correct…and they show NPR listeners and Stewart viewers at 1.51 and 1.42 respectively trying to show how dumb fox viewers were.

But… NPR and Stewart scores were lower then the “People’s” 1.6 so the study shows people who listen to Fox…NPR…and Stewart viewers are all dumb asses compared to the “People”.

Butch

I interpreted this to mean that the most knowledgable people (i.e., people able to answer the most questions) do NOT get their information from television or radio news sources. And I'm sure that is correct generally in the world.

I think the conclusion to draw is that people who rely on only radio or television for their news know less than people who rely on a variety of sources for their news. And within those people who rely only on radio or television for news, those who only watch FOX news were able to answer the fewest number of questions.

I find nothing surprising at all in these results. Anyone who relies on t.v. for all of their news is not going to know very much. And anyone who relies on FOX for all of their news, well, again, no surprises here....

Good call. And then there's this 2009 study from Pew:

Nobody trusts the news. But Republicans and Democrats predictably insist that their favored news outlets are more reliable, even though Independents see little difference.
