In viewing Lance's thread, I got to thinking about slave speak? Where did it originate? Is it Gorean? Do other subsets of BDSM use slave speak? I don't remember anyone using it when I started out about 30 years ago. I'm not saying that no one did, but I don't remember anyone I was in contact with (very pre internet) using this type of language. My first introduction to slave speak was via online about 15 years ago, which is when I first learned of Goreans. Which is, perhaps, why I lump them together. I admit to knowing only enough about Gor to know it's not my cup of tea. Yet in the other thread, someone said something about slave speak being a Gor phenomena, and it got me thinking (dangerous I know).

'Gonna vote for Gorean. Me? I find Gor medium hot -except for the weird, puritanical fade outs on the hard action when they "light the lamp of love" and finally get down to it after 9 pages of socratic back and forth about "what is a slave girl?". Thirty books and only a couple of "She kissed his manhoods" and a single very oblique anal reference? Thin. I met a couple of Goreans at events. Any guy who can get gorean girlfriend is obviously a semi-idol of mine. That's gotta be a hard sell.

I was duly informed that WEAL and TWUE Doms and subs always use it. I originated in the hallowed halls of the Collarme forums. At least that is my sarcastic and uneducated guess. Since I have NEVER heard, or seen it, anywhere else. I am pretty damned sure I know a few lifestyle people and I've never once heard any of them 'talk funny' like that.

Another vote for Gor. Pre-John Norman I'd be hard pressed to think of any example in literature of anyone speaking in the 3rd person about themselves that wasn't either insane or royalty. Not that the two are mutually exclusive. <Queen Elizabeth I> We are not amused </Q.E. I>

I vote for some erotic novel, whether it be the Gor series or something else. I remember when I was first discovering this, I entered a chat room, and got kicked out because I refused to use lower case in my screen name or when typing messages. Haven't been back to a chat room since.

The first gal that I ever heard speak in the third person was a couple of years before I had a computer. Where it came from, I don't know, but it was pretty to watch.

'Can't bring myself to diss the Gor people. They're getting nuttily laid and chasing a dream. They are truly doing God's work. The 3rd party thing is a humbling mechanism. Why is it any diff from licking a boot? If I was with a partner who was into it, I'm sure I'd get at least a little into it as well.

The first time I saw it online and offline was during the mIRC days, back in the 90's. I knew a couple of people in real life that spoke in the same way, both of them were Goreans so I'm pretty sure it was during the days when Gor was the trend.

Gorean was a trend? I must have missed that trend, not surprising as I miss most trends. I'm too busy being my own trend, not hard to do when the sun shines out of my asshole. I know I know, thousands of comedians out of work, and I'm trying to be funny.

When the mIRC channels were a big thing I would say about 75% of the channels were Gorean and munches were filled with Goreans and they were always great entertainment lol.

Ah, okay, that must have been my pre DJ days. Hhhmm, I didn't start DJing until maybe 8 years ago? There were Gor rooms, but they were a small minority. And yeah, I almost got tossed out of a few I Djed in since I refused to "accept Gor protocol." A ton of drama was generated over this issue, which I found hysterical. They didn't like it when I said: "This is a cheesy chatroom on IRC Bondage, not some high protocol leather event." Never did get what all the hoopla was about, since My DJ nicks have always been domme, for the specific reason of not having to take any online BS about running around calling total strangers on the internet "Sir" or "Madame."

Yeah, it's easy to make fun of, but if my partner said it made her wet, I'll bet I'd get into it. For like, an hour. It's a humbling mechanism. How is it any different from licking a boot?

There is a world of difference between specific speech restrictions, and I include slave speak under that umbrella term, and the whole "Gorean philosophy," which, in my never humble opinion, is based on low rent sci fi. It's one thing to check out some Gor and take from it what you want. You might like slave speak, I might like the positions and the silks, someone else might like the male supremacy aspects, whatevah. But it's another thing to go full bore Gor, and start talking about Goreans as if they were a past race that actually existed, as if they had a real history, and as if the Gorean philosophy was based on anything but the ramblings of a poor writer. I've seen all of that happen in various online venues, the CM forums being but one. Sure, Goreans have the right to be Gor if they wish, and I have the right to think they're ridiculous.

I am a long time fan/voyeur of the Gorean section of CM. They are super serious people into a whole thing that is not even really about sex (and that's where we part company). They're huge on the whole honor concept and I can't see a thing wrong with it. It's like Tony Robbins for perverts. I wish they would use their great writing talents on other parts of CM, but as I understand it, they take great pains to distinguish themselves as definitely NOT BDSM -much like the Taken In Hand People. Pervdom is a broad church and any one in it is sort of on my team.
