Wulfchyld -> RE: Profiles (6/7/2006 12:56:28 AM)

Mail me and let me know if evrything is okay.

Brosco -> RE: Profiles (6/7/2006 1:03:47 AM)

With all due respect, but uuuummmm why don't you guys get a room or start your own thread?  I have been following this thread about profiles and find its turn into a personal wank session between a couple of people...  is that the norm here?

Greetings A/All well   lets  see  about  profiles  do  you  really  have to fill   one  out?  I   had a good  one  on here  till   i  deleted  by   mistake.....

About  the  profiles  can  you  make them  short  or  dose  it  have to  be  really  long  like  some?
Personal preference I am sure, but think of it as a used car ad, would you buy a car without some description? Similarly, if you don't offer any information, it will be hard for anyone to take an interest in you.

The trouble is, most profiles are about as honest as a used car ad, too.

Ok, now you're getting the hang of this place.

Brosco -> RE: Profiles (6/7/2006 1:09:40 AM)

And your point is????  you believe your siggie gives you thr right to hijack a thread and turn it into a stupid meaningless set of exchanges that no one would have the slightest interest in reading?  If thats the norm...  wow... its a wonder that the forum continues to attract people.

Wulfchyld -> RE: Profiles (6/7/2006 1:14:59 AM)

Well Brosco if you take a look back around post #15 you will see what exactly derailed this thread.

Brosco -> RE: Profiles (6/7/2006 1:23:08 AM)

uuummmm well wulfchyld, post #15 was yours and since then you have made many posts off topic... so again - your point is?

Wulfchyld -> RE: Profiles (6/7/2006 1:24:29 AM)

Better look again bub.

Brosco,

I highly suggest using the 'block' feature provided by Collarme if there are posters who you don't wish to read. Threads often get derailed because people like to come in, have fun and this is entertainment time, but you don't need to read anything you don't wish to and there are plenty of people who respond seriously and save the Random Stupidity for the proper forums. Welcome to the chaos though.

To the OP: The length and content of your profile is entirely your own choice. A few words about what you offer and what you seek are usually better than nothing at all and those with profiles seem to get more responses than those without but it's up to you. If Collarme is your 'only' venue for seeking a partner, then a more detailed profile would be in order. If you have other outlets, such as munches, local groups etc and are just here for the forums and to exchange ideas then a profile is probably not necessary.

Now.. I have just one question. When the hell is Cerckl going to get a cage for those fucking monkey's? [8D]

Celeste

Asks about content of profiles.

Post #14 (by me) expresses an opinion about profiles:
quote:

WOW - What a very interesting thread!  I have only been here a short while and have the impression that a good number of active posters here are not only reallife, but also don't even believe that there can be any form of 'real' relationship online - then I find this thread about using online profiles to promote ones self to find a partner.  I have never been to a munch where there was a bulliten board to post the profiles of the attendees.

I have no idea what is in my profile - I am sure I filled in some basic stuff when I joined, but other than that, nothing.  To some, that appears to make me shallow and not worth responding to - so be it.

Online, I have found that profiles present the authors perception of themselves, and may be far from reality.  To me it is very easy, if I want to get to know someone better, their profile is not the best place to go.  I look at the other posts made by the person, and not only does that build a better picture of values, tastes and beliefs - but, over time. will show inconsistancies if they exist.  A person would have to make one heck of a solo post for me to want to get to know them better from just that.

Perhaps you could explain to me how your posts added to the topic and that mine derailed it (if thats what you failed to imply)

You apparently want to judge people by the posts they make, and therefore I assume you want them to post honestly so you can judge their character.

Then later you complain that people are posting in ways you don't like - ok, fine, they derailed a thread, but that shows their character, which is what you wanted, right?  If everyone posted purely on topic and didn't editorialise or have a bit of fun now and then, how would you see their true selves?
