Over here, benefits are a fixed rate, that has nothing to do with how long you were working or how much NI you put in the kitty while doing so. Job Seeker's Allowance (the benefit for which claimants are being herded into workfare programmes) pays about eighty pounds a week. That works out at £2.60 for a thirty hour week. Minimum wage is just shy of six quid at the moment.
