Why do you think the Right is focusing so hard on social issues, rather than the economy? It's because they know they can't win on their economic record. Their half baked ideas just don't work. It's far easier to wail about gay marriage then defend their voodoo economics. And those dumbass right wing Christians just eat it up. It is sickening.

If you would ever take your silly left/right glasses off, you'd realize I've been saying since 2009 that Obama is Bush-Light.

But hey, here's for you rob, just a small town girl in a lonely world...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5wVZwdHmRY

Obamacare, despite the rhetoric, is here to stay. Roberts knows the credibility of the SC is already on the line from Citizens United, and he's got every reason to take a long term view. Finally, we have *something,* however lame (and it is lame, to be sure). But even the kamizaze Pubs, who really could have waltzed away with this election instead of positioning themselves in the most extreme unfavorable rating their Party has ever had, even below Congress, know they can't be the Party who takes away the benefits some people are already starting to enjoy. Worse case, the SC alters how this looks on the face of it. But the case is hardy decided, as so many of you seem to think. Time will tell. But we are on the other side of that health care wall that's blocked us from being a sane country for seven decades, and whatever happens, that will be Obama's legacy--he finally broke through the wall. Even the Talking Points reflect this--Reform not Repeal--even though their intent is partial repeal.

The glasses have been off, how many times have I posted that ALL incumbents need a boot in the ass? I completely disagree with you about Obamacare, and Roberts, and we'll see who's right in about a month. I also said Bush was spending too much money, and we were fighting the wrong type of war, but where did that get me?

What fucking world do you live in to think the right is focusing on social issues? I wanna go to there, to steal a phrase from Tina Fey. It's the media, and the left pushing the conversation towards social issues to AVOID Obama's epic failure of an economic policy.

Show us where the Right is pushing the economy more than abortion, birth control and gay marriage.

Which is, of course, Maher's point about Republican fauxrage.

And again, it's certainly no defense of Obama. The "left" certainly isn't getting its agenda. It's primarily more of Bush, with the exception of a more comprehensive health care approach instead of a prescription drug plan with a big hole.

In other words, stop being the United States.

From an outside perspective, it seems to me you've stopped being the United States several times over already. And the inside perspective, I should think, depends on being the people of the United States, which would be independent of the status of the governing body of a nation those people are citizens of. If an entity cannot adapt to its environment, it is the way of things that the entity dies, or so history seems to tell us. There is nothing to prevent carrying some traditions and legacies of an obsolete and dysfunctional entity into a new one. I believe you've been quite fond of using the expression that change is the only constant?

quote:

A parliamentary system alone would certainly change things, but it would mean rewriting the Constitution.

Rewriting it has occured several times in the form of partial rewrites called Amendments, if memory serves.

The Constitution is for the people. If it doesn't serve the people, it goes.

That, I think, is in line with the spirit of the Constitution.

IWYW,
— Aswad.

Now show me a NATIONAL Republican figure going after abortion rights, birth control, or gay marriage...

Stating an opinion when asked a gotcha question by a reporter really doesn't count, since they're not running for President... Does it?

They've been playing the nominal vs. proportional game to whichever way suits them best at the time for decades. It's Americans who are stupid for believing it.

For over 20 years, I've watched federal taxes go down while state and local taxes skyrocket to pick up the slack--at what point do people wake up? It seems never.

Yes, well that's the reality. The "public" are notoriously gifted at ignoring what actually happens in favor of believing the rhetoric that they find most appealing at any given moment in time. Just like the mob in Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" they are easily manipulated into believing one thing at one moment and another at another moment, all with complete disregard to anything real. This is simply a political reality that has always existed, and will always exist. The percentage of people who are actually aware of what is happening around them has throughout history always been very small. I'm not sure anything has changed in present times to make things any different.

Isn't the topic about the PRESIDENT'S NUMBERS? Weren't my links directly related to the original topic?

I didn't see the part of the OP that talks about social issues, were you typing in invisible mode again?
Pardon me for trying to bring your topic BACK on target.[8|]

First link says NOTHING about the economy.
Second link says "Obama bad" and NOTHING about how they're going to fix it.
Third link "Romney pledged to repeal Obama’s federal health care law and the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act." That's it.
Fourth link, Precisely the same as the second.
Fifth link Ditto
Sixth link. Same old same old except this time, Romney is claiming that he "Feels the pain of the middle class" [sm=rofl.gif]

In all seriousness, did you read this crap before you posted it?

So, what we have is the Republicans are saying "Obama bad, we good" and claiming they'll kill health care reform and deregulate Wall Street just like their handlers told them to.

As for a national Republican figure focusing on something besides the economy, How about the chairman of the RNC? Is that national enough for ya?

Lying with statistics for partisan purposes:

Obama spending binge never happened
Commentary: Government outlays rising at slowest pace since 1950s
May 22, 2012|Rex Nutting, MarketWatch

quote:

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Of all the falsehoods told about President Barack Obama, the biggest whopper is the one about his reckless spending spree.

As would-be president Mitt Romney tells it: “I will lead us out of this debt and spending inferno.”

Almost everyone believes that Obama has presided over a massive increase in federal spending, an “inferno” of spending that threatens our jobs, our businesses and our children’s future. Even Democrats seem to think it’s true.

But it didn’t happen.
