Status: offline 		Roof hits, penalties for not holding your hit long enough to exhale clear, and a tribute to his drug dealer in the high school yearbook. The President's first "green initiatives" had nothing to do with dumping hundreds of millions of dollars into half-assed solar power projects.

The pundits are all having a ball with the latest excerpts from a pending biography of President Obama. Why should they get to have all the fun?

Two questions, I guess. How will these new details affect the President's political stance on the legalization of marijuana question, and what advice might he have for parents who can no longer warn their kids that smoking pot will ruin their future?

You may have a personal conviction about something, but as a matter of professional policy, your view is the opposite.

Status: offline 		So President Obama smoked pot when he was little. That's nothing compared to the president just before him.

Former President George W. Bush drank alochol by the beer company during his college days! Since most of our economic mess stems from poor planning, poor decision making, and poor ability to be accountible and responsible in public office by him (not to mention getting 4000+ of our soldiers killed looking for those phantom WMDs in Iraq....). I would have thought you would be holding the people you vote into office and support to the same level of accountibility and responsibility (if not twice that) of President Obama.

Guess I was wrong....

Status: offline 		I made the effort.   I could have just as easily said, I suppose, like the shit the GOP goes on and on about in public rhetoric about fiscal conservatism, but their actual policy is borrow to the hilt and spend like a drunken sailor.

Or we could have left it at Romneys high school gaybashing, perhaps the point I make is too mordant for your subtle discourses.....I can't help that.

Okay Rich, on this topic, I will say, what about those an old school water bongs? Remember the nice glass ones?

Seriously, last I checked President Obama made the statement RECENTLY, that "We will NOT be legalizing weed anytime soon".
I personally would love to see more states legalizing the use of medical marijuana.
I think it's great for medicinal purposes.


Second question, I don't know of any responsible loving parent/or adult who glorifies or encourages smoking pot, and I don't think for one minute President Obama encourages his daughters to smoke "weed" either.

I think we should flat legalize, and the sooner the better, for reasons I've gone over elsewhere recently. We already knew President Obama had inhaled, "frequently," by his own words, but having these details added to the historical record is something new.

And yes, "the talk" with young people is going to be a bit more complicated for some, with this in the mix.

No change. He doesn't care, really, and he's afraid that he would lose more votes (or cause unneeded controversy) by changing his political stance, then not.


2. What advice might he have for parents who can no longer warn their kids that smoking pot will ruin their future?

"Oops!" ??

He is in a tough position. I doubt he will, but all he could reasonably do is explain how he "overcame" his earlier habits. Even that would reek of hypocrisy, though.

We have far too many serious, serious issues in this country, even with alcohol being legal, to legalize pot.

Maybe way down the road, when our country is standing on firmer grand.
I do have serious issues with the laws and penalties, ruining people's lives/criminal records/jail and prison time for possession of small amounts, and for personal usage!
I am for, serious decriminalization of pot, especially for personal use.

Okay the conservatives think pot should be legalized and the liberals think pot should not be legalized BUT possession should be decriminalized.

Actually the talk coming from ME, could make a young person run.
There is a big difference between talking among my "peers" who lived through it and can relate as a peer, and a young impressionable person!

The stories I can tell you up front and personal, of lives ruined? potential ruined? wasted lives? you have no idea how someone who has been around the block can tell it like it is, and explain in great detail how drugs can ruin and fuck up your life.

For every success story like President Obama, there are thousands more who went on to develop very serious problems.
