You're wrong. Churches can and have lost their tax exempt status due to partisan political activity. http://www.wnd.com/2000/05/4497/ Rev. Wright's recorded sermons never endorse specific candidates or parties. Which is the line that cannot be crossed. Actually, I am right. Yet again. Your article indicates a single church is the only church found in violation of the law and only because it funded a newspaper ad; A far cry from preaching from the pulpit. The article does not support your position that Churches cannot preach against gay marrage just because a candidate has a pro-gay marriage position because that church violated the law by taking out a paid advertisment rather than preaching from the pulpit. The article indicates the law forbids the Church from "taking part of any political campaign ". So, do you feel preaching from the pulpit and mentioning one candidate one week and perhaps even another the next, both perhaps even in a bad light, is "taking part in a political campaign" and therefore against the law? Additionally, Pastor Wright can discuss specific parties and candidates because there is no line to cross except the one of actively taking part of a campaign. To give this clarity and bring it home; If you or I wrote something about Obama here that does not mean we are "actively taking part of a compaign" and neither is preaching from the pulpit considered taking active part of a political campaign. Finally, I've copied your article below from following your link and that link serves as a credit and source for the text. quote:
Yesterday, a federal appeals court upheld the Internal Revenue Service’s decision to revoke the tax-exempt status of a church that had paid for newspaper ads against then-presidential candidate Bill Clinton in 1992. The revocation is the first in the history of the IRS and serves as a warning from the federal judiciary that churches may not fund partisan activity. U.S. law granting tax-exempt status also forbids tax-exempt organizations from involvement in “any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.” P.S. You think about this and reply with a leftist apology, not about America, but about your post being wrong. I however am going to the gym. Being right is only half the battle, you need to look "right" to be an Alpha.
