I have a young lady I'm intending to visit in the next month or two - this off the heels of flying to the Caribbean to attend a relative's wedding. It's two flights this year, bringing my lifelong total to three. I don't mind, but it's funny to look at from a statistical standpoint. We all have to travel sooner or later - for friends, family, loved ones, even work... So the $64 question is: What's the furthest distance you traveled, and how did you get there? Would you, could you, fly a plane; would you, could you, ride a train; take a bus, drive a car, would you, could...and how far? The Caribbean was the furthest for me, weighing in at about 3500 miles. It was a bus shuttle to the airport, and then the plane; with a bus at the other airport taking us to the remote hotel we were staying at.

Miami to Alaska and then a bush plane to the Bristol Bay area, then back. (to go fishing)

Do dreams count? If so, I've travelled many many miles. In reality, the farthest I've travelled was 1050 miles. Point A was Florida and Point B was Puerto Rico to meet His family.

I have traveled 6819 to Bejing China from Cincinnati, Ohia via plane for 14+ hours. Then drove another 120 miles to reach my final destination. But I did get to walk part of the Great Wall in China. Awsome experience!

from Philadelphia with a layover in London and then off to Portugal 3 hours later. Round trip of over 7300 miles. I've also taken greyhound from Pittsburgh to Jacksonville, Fla....16 hours in a cramped little space on a filled to capacity bus. Never again! UGH. I love to take trains and take them as often as I can. They're a lot of fun and very comfortable. I've flown from Pittsburgh to Chicago, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina. I'd like to take a plane ride to Asia soon. I hate to fly but it's the only way to get across the ocean quickly other than taking a ship and that just takes too long.

Detroit to...Hawaii. Detroit to Rome. I think those are the furthest. I despise commercial air travel, but I want to get to my destination as quickly as possible.

I think the furthest I've flown is from Sydney, Australia to Orlando, FL, USA via LAX. Around 9000 miles. (Sydney to LAX takes 14 hours, LAX to Orlando takes 5 hours + time difference). This time round, I'll be flying from home to Sydney, Sydney to Honolulu as my POE, Honolulu to the Bay area. Yay! I actually don't mind traveling. I really would like to go to Europe in the next few years.

The furthest I've traveled was 12,000 miles, crisscross around the country one fall. It was a road trip that started in Florida and toured the states visiting all my distributors, including over the border to Tijuana. I traveled with my girl and we had a blast. Got caught up in a snow storm on a hop from Chicago to Michigan so I lent the sedan to an ex and bought a brand new jeep to finish off the trip in the snow storm.

I've been to a number of places, but the farthest was the most recent. Not mentioning all the wonderful the stops along the way, flight from San Francisco to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Rome; bus from Rome to Naples, the ferry over to Greece and bus to Athens. Personally, I like planes and boats and trains, and seeing the new and different. I can't get away enough!

Adelaide to Sydney to China to LAX to Colorado (I think) to Tennessee, picked up from Tennessee slept 3 hrs, drive to Alabama to view my father before he was buried at a Nat'l Cemetary in Tennessee just over the border. I think i was in transit for 36 hrs or so that time. previous to that, longest was from Mpls to NY to Iceland (?), Rome, then train to Vicenza, 3 months pregnant. did a nice train trip from Sydney to Broken Hill to Adelaide too. next time, sleeper car though! train trips are pretty common over here and in Europe though.

Longest flight was Miami to London to Berlin. Took 24 hours. Longest bus was Palm Springs Ca, to Savannah Ga, 4 days. I don't remember how long it took the train to go from Berlin to Frankfurt, but it was overnight.

these types of threads always make me chuckle because i've lead such a sheltered life travel wise. i've actually never been out of England. i've been close enough the both Wales and Scotland to wave at them, but that's it. to date the furthest i've been is Poole and Bournemouth on the south coast. as you look at the map of britain, i live roughly in the middle of it, so all in all not far at all. my playmate lives in London, google wreckons it's about 157 miles. it takes; a taxi, train, tube and bus to get there. tame isn't it lol needles

Longest flights were Buffalo to Miami. I have taken both car and bus trips across the USA. I may have traveled into Mexico in the late 1980's. I say may because this was during a period of my life that I refer to as the "hazy days." All I have are some dim, dreamlike images of a Mexican gal laughing hysterically and a Mexican guy yelling "Eso no es lo sombreos son para usted yankee pervertido cabrón!"

Planes, trains, automobiles. I would guess the longest distance was NYC to Tel Aviv though. 5500 miles. Longest train ride, NYC to Miami. Longest car ride as an adult, mid Hudson Valley to Orlando, about 26 hours to take the kid to a paintball tournament. The Man did all the driving, the kid slept damn near the entire ride both ways.

Longest flight was for a two day wedding in Hawaii. Left Iowa Thursday afternoon and got back to Iowa late Sunday. Anything I've seen of Hawaii has pretty much been from a limo window. Longest drive was a two week trip to California. Left Iowa and drove straight through to Los Angeles. After several days in LA we drove to SanDiego and spent several days there and in Mexico. Left San Diego and drove to Santa Rosa. Spent several days in Santa Rosa and San Fran, then drove north to the border to some town that starts with an 'M', I cannot remember the name right now. Left there and drove straight through back to Iowa. The longest by car, by myself, would be me, driving straight through, to SW Colorado to visit family. Just under 1,000 miles. I leave early morning and get there in the evening. Train trips around here are usually short and tourist oriented. I've never traveled Amtrak or via bus. No mentioned boats, but I bet quite a few have done some seriously long boat trips. Especially those in/prior military. My longest would have been a 10 day Caribbean cruise.

one time i did traveld from Cairo to Damascus.. by bus (at the Aqba we had to use ship), ariund 4500 km to us (from thursday 11PM to saterday 7AM). & first time & the last time i did that road by the bus (did not sleep & when i got home i slept a complete 2 days) ..... 45 minutes in plane.. with flirting with stewardess..[8D]
