I like "The Wall" the best for no other reason than any time I think I might be slip sliding off the raw edge of sanity, all I have to do is rent and watch it and I realize that I'm really in pretty good shape after all.. ETA, you forgot about Quadrophenia.

The Wall. I was thirteen when the album came out and besides just being damn good music it taught me to think about the world differently. I credit The Wall with being one of the major turning points in my transformation from a child's outlook to an adult one. It taught me to ask questions: What is my place in society and who decides? Why should I believe everything my teachers tell me? Should I trust the government? Who the hell is Vera Lynn? Some things I've got the answers to... others, I'm still working on.

Phil collins didn't play the part till '89 in the stage production.

The Wall. Love Pink Floyd, love this album (yes, it was an album when it came out - heh). Just saw Roger Waters perform The Wall in San Francisco and OMG it was amazing.

For me it's Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds which inspired me whilst in Poland to develop a street theatre version with four separate spaces over half a mile (half of one on water), Martians on ten foot stilts and lots of tin foil, papier mache and goat's cheese. This was for a major theatre festival but it never really came together for various reasons. Some good memories. Another one is Genesis's The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway which I listened to obsessively during a depressive spell in the mid-1980's.

dc, I love the scene in the movie version where Banderas sings does a forehead/palm when he sings about tepid reaction in Italy to the Rainbow Tour: "Seems they equate Peron with Mussolini; can't think why."

In 1983 I met someone who had the cast album of The Survival of St. Joan (1971). I found it interesting. I did not learn until much, much later that it was the first American rock opera. The band Smoke Rise did the singing but the stage acting cast included F. Murray Abraham. I won't say it is my favorite but I have a soft spot for it. edit: clarity
