By Jibran Ahmad and Saud Mehsud

PESHAWAR/DERA ISMAIL KHAN, June 5 (Reuters) - Abu Yahya al-Libi, one of al Qaeda's top strategists and seen as the most prominent figure in the network after leader Ayman al Zawahri, may have been killed in a drone strike in Pakistan, Pakistani intelligence officials said on Tuesday.

If his death is confirmed it would be the biggest blow to al Qaeda since U.S. special forces killed Osama bin Laden in a secret raid in Pakistan in May 2011.

U.S. sources said Libi, a Libyan cleric with a degree in chemistry who has survived previous attacks by drone aircraft, was a target of a strike early on Monday in northwest Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal region, home to some of the world's most notorious militant groups.

Now why on earth would the US be interested in a chemist hiding in Pakistan?

Hopefully he didn't produce too much product before he became a martyr for the Romney campaign.

Was he the only one open before 9am and the US had a nasty rash?

I'm sure it's convenient to look at it that way.

Course it pleads ignorance of any knowledge of who Abu Yahya al-Libi is.

But then ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

Are you not getting a little bored of having your freedoms curtailed in the name of preventing terrorism? I wish I was ignorant as to how we have changed our own civilisations in a way no terrorist could of ever hoped to achieve.

Laughing in their graves.

So, this is like the 23 managment guy in al-Queda.org in the last 3 years or so to be dusted by drones..........

Yeah they also point out his degree in chemistry so as to reaffirm to us how dangerous this individual is. However we don't know when he obtained this degree or the reasons behind why he obtained it. We are unwilling to believe that once upon a time he may have had normal aspirations. The knowledge to maim or kill people using chemistry is freely available and extensive, the people getting their hands dirty don't necessarily have to be people with degrees in it (as proven in numerous incidents throughout history).

It's just another news item to remind us why we are paying for it and how dangerous the world is.

All we care about is that the jihad is a flop.
Nobody gives a fuck where he went to school.
Now excuse me, my coffee needs to be reheated (about the extent of your effect).

I bet he was droned because he wouldn't provide the morning after pill[:-]

Fellow -> RE: Al Queda strategist Droned??? (6/5/2012 2:33:52 PM)

Hard to take this kind of news without deep independent analysis. Obama administration could be, at this moment, interested of running justification campaign to their drone wars. New York times and other sources exposed the inner workings of drone wars,  Obama sick obsession with targeted killing. Here is some explanation where the problems lie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=YeIkpr88H4E#!
