Karmastic -> BDSM has silently become mainstream (6/7/2012 5:57:06 PM)

Okay, sorry I lied. Just more of an interesting tidbit. Below are the first 14 worst passwords. Check out #14 - I think it's evidence that BDSM has silently become mainstream. Well, at least for people who create bad passwords.

What does that say about masters? What does this mean for society at large?

Nothing at all.

LanceHughes -> RE: BDSM has silently become mainstream (6/7/2012 6:37:22 PM)

Since report lists only the worst 25, we'll guess that "slave" is 26. LOL!

Mainstream BDSM?  You bet.  But do NOT get carried away until DSM-V comes out in May, 2013.  The current DSM (Diagnostic and Statisical Manual) still lists BDSM under the paraphilias (paraphilea ?).  DSM is the 'bible' of the psych profession and is used LEGALLY!

Until homosexuality was removed from DSM-III by publishing DSM-IV, gays had huge problems.  Some men commited suicide rather than live with the title of "mentally ill."  Well, it was more that they were forced there.....

On a lighter note, you ALL need to show your faces in the Leather contigencies of the Gay Pride Parades coming up at the end of June - exact dates vary by city.  It's a "Thank You," but more importantly, you'll get an idea of what comes next...... LOL!

"What comes next, Lance?" you ask..... Well, sodomy laws fell at the Supreme Court by hard work of gays.  Next up?  Removal of other oppressive "bedroom" laws. "Fixing" BDSM is more tricky since we MUST leave abuse laws in place.

Easiest way to make this all happen?  Cash to support the fine folk at https://ncsfreedom.org where NCSF = National Coalition for Sexual Freedom.  They are working at ALL levels, especially getting the right laws IN and the wrong laws OUT.  They file aminus curie briefs <friend of the court> and on and on.

Edited to fix couple of misspellings.

You missed one...it's the one I (lovingly) use to remember my ex wife. Sometimes it's a bit too long for some websites....but I give it my best:

fuckyouyoulivingbastionofhellIneverlovedyouIhopeyoudieinafieldofgasolineflamesoffireypitsofhell

(Occasionally it gets rejected because I have to use numeric fields).

Not really.....

"I'm a gay man."
"Oh, some of my best friends are gay, too."   BLEAH! <I say "BLEAH!" since it sounds like 50s "Some of my best friends are blacks, too."  Looks around, whispers, "Is that the right term nowadys?" >

"I'm a BDSMer"
"You're a what? Is that some sort of cult or something?"

So, you try to explain using your best try at an "okay / understandable" vocabulary.  And all they can say is, "Oh, my gawd.  You're a wife beater." or (other gender) "Oh my gawd.  Why do you let him abuse you like that?..... Listen.  One of my friends volunteers at a women's safe house.  You should talk to her."

BDSM is NOT mainstream.  Not yet, but it will get there.  FIRST, it MUST be out of DSM! ! ! !

This to you means BDSM is mainstream? Really? Maybe he/she is a college student going
for a masters degree. Maybe he/she was looking at a lock. Maybe his/her last name is Masterson.
Do you automatically think of BDSM when you see a Subway, or working on a slave cylinder?
Besides, if it really was in reference to BDSM, the m in master would have been capitalized.

littlewonder -> RE: BDSM has silently become mainstream (6/7/2012 10:09:13 PM)

I dunno. I see it on commercials, goths and emos, hear it in music, and just about every person I know has some kind of kinky sex of some kind or another. Then there's the books and movies that have running themes throughout them.

LadyPact -> RE: BDSM has silently become mainstream (6/7/2012 10:18:39 PM)

The progression of BDSM into mainstream isn't anything new.  Heck, even since I've come up there have been huge changes.  However, that has much more to do with mainstream media and varying tactics of "sex sells" and "taboo sex sells better".

On the "master" password, don't attribute that to BDSM.  Stuff like WOW and similar MMORPGs play into that.

~~~~~~
To Lance.  I just had a thought.  Maybe we need an Upcoming Events thread where people can post the date that the Gay Pride parade will be held in their cities?
kalikshama -> RE: BDSM has silently become mainstream (6/8/2012 5:01:22 AM)
Here you go: Where's the Gay Pride Parade near you?
This is a great topic and so I have started a thread: Should BDSM be removed from the DSM altogether?
You are always so good about providing research, kalikshama!  Thank you so much for providing the link.
Master/slave is programming speak, too, or it was back in unixland. Just words, dood.
Moonhead -> RE: BDSM has silently become mainstream (6/8/2012 12:09:09 PM)
Yep. I'd be bloody surprised if most (or even any) of the "Master" passwords to be found have anything to do with power exchange pervery.
Almost always. [;)] I admit my mind tends towards the warped and perverted, but there are very few things that I pass by in the store that don't make me want to pervert them and use them for a purpose other than that which was intended.
Except yogurt. Yogurt is just a no. [;)]
What are your feelings on hummus?
I like hummus.. slather it on a slave to hold the balloons in place and then the bull to break those suckers. Fill the balloons partially with ink first and it's even funnier. [:D] Yogurt is just to slippery for that!
