becca333 -> A different classification (6/7/2006 1:32:10 AM)

Because of the slightly odd attitude some cultures have towards sexual activities, I think we need to re-examine how we define ourselves.

Personally, I feel that, from the point of view of subs/slaves especially, BDSM isn't a sexual activity - it's a sport, in some cases an extreme sport.

Now, there's a lot of advantages to this: sports are regarded as healthy, challenging physical fun; they make cool TV ads about them; sports stars get sponsorships (the mind boggles - maybe leather goods makers could sponsor me?); you win cool trophies and things; and you can discuss them openly with your family and friends.

To persuade people that we're a sport, here's some proofs:

* There's lots of physical activity

* There's thrills and excitement

* A degree of physical risk

* Terms like 'scoring' and 'coming first' are used

* There's a rush of adrenalin

* The occasional physical injury

And, let's face it, if ballroom dancing can call itself a sport - how about us?

I'm imagining the sports shows on TV if BDSM was included in the coverage.... that'd beat watching the footy, that's for sure!

Damn Becca.. I think you're on to something here. I like it.

Wonder if we can get it into the Olympics?!

Lets hope that they would find commentators who knew something about the subject ...  unlike those in ballroom dancing!!!

becca333 -> RE: A different classification (6/7/2006 3:27:55 AM)

I'm not sure why, but that really worries me!  LOL

I don't think I'd trust a Dom with no self-control, and access to crocodiles.

A Dom with crocodiles....  now that has to be serious edge-play  :)

becca333 -> RE: A different classification (6/7/2006 3:33:46 AM)

"No!  No Master, please don't suspend me over the crocodile tank again!"

"Shut up Stumpy, and get the ropes."

Quivver -> RE: A different classification (6/7/2006 4:12:52 AM)

Wow, I can see it now..... all the advertisers busy tatooing their logo's onto the competitors!  Floggers with the Kellogs brand, Bright leather harnesses for Sprint.  Oh God this could go BIG!!!

I have never considered myself very athletic or good at sports.

Will there be trophies or medals involved?

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: A different classification (6/7/2006 6:04:40 AM)

I go for more of the hobby route.

There are lots of types of kinks that are a lot more like chess- not strenuous physically, not a lot of movement, not a lot of physical contact, not adrenaline rushes...more mental and intense competition sort of thing.

And since people can be into it with any degree of interest or time, I see it as more of a hobby.

No way!  BDS/m is too important to be mere sport.  Just play, maybe that's a sport, but when personal relationships and emotions are involved it is not a game.

Can't it be both?  I enjoy playing games in my personal relationships.

Furr -> RE: A different classification (6/7/2006 6:50:25 AM)

Could be.  Maybe I should rethink the matter.
