Hibbie, not to spoil anything, but the Sookie books aren't anything, well much, like TB on HBO. As the seasons go further along, there is more deviation from the books. By all means, read the books, they are fun, and have a bit more character depth than the 45 minutes on TV that's there. Someone here said something along the lines of a parallel universe.....that's the best way to describe the books versus the show. I love them both, but for different reasons. I haven't gotten Deadlocked yet, but to prepare, I have just re-read the last 3 books. Personally, I would have liked to see the series a bit more true (no pun intended) to the books.....the plot lines and characters are better. And there's tons of nudity......I'm telling you, Eric could bite me ANYTIME!!!!!! Even from the start of the books, I liked Eric more than Bill.
