I wouldn't say those kind of websites worry me. Having a specific physical attraction doesn't always mean you are racist. There are certain nationalities/ethnicities I would not date. Maybe it's partially because I've become less tolerable (due to personal experieces, I'm not going to sugar coat it) but for the most part (75%) I'm just not attracted to them.

I've grown up in a unique situation in that my Mum is an atheist, but is accepting of everyone's right to their religion, she holds no prejudices towards anyone. I don't know how she turned out that way, she just did. My Dad, however, is agnostic (Catholic raised) but is highly prejudice towards certain ethnicities & religions. I'm marrying into a Jewish family and honestly I couldn't be happier because I've immersed myself in so much information that I think this is the religion that I've been looking for.

If that was true, I would not get so many notes from black dudes.

Ah yes, the "find gawds match for you" ones make me wanna puke.

Christian Mingle keeps spamming me. I'm part Jewish, married and kinky. I'm tempted to join just to let them know that I find the 5 emails a day to be annoying.

They will probably do like the Scientologists did me when I complained. Spam ya 20 times a day.

Someone told me I did reverse racism, I'm was like what the hell was that. But according to them since I didn't date black men, I was doing reverse racism on my ethnic group, which is bs to me. I don't hate or dislike any ethnic, cultural, or religious group, I'm friends with everyone.

As for those commercials, they are just geared toward a special group, like they have an Amish one, but Amish doesn't have power ( correct me if I'm wrong). Someone found a way to make money with these different sites and ran with it.

A friend of mine and I had a discussion about this last week. We are both white, and are 3 months apart in age, I turned 50 in April, she will catch me in July.

She has only dated black men in her lifetime. Being from a lil redneck town in the panhandle of Florida, you can bet this was not well accepted back in the 70's at all. Her parents were appalled at it even, but she said that was just the kind of man she had always been attracted to. Fuck explaining it to anyone. She now has 2 gorgeous kids, is divorced for 10 years, and is going to be getting remarried to the most awesome man in the world in September.

I have only dated white men in my lifetime. When I was 9 and saw a commercial with Kenny Rogers, and told mom he sure was purdy, mom knew I was gonna go for the longhaired bearded dudes. And she was right. Fuck explaining it to anyone, it is what I am attracted to.

My son has only liked black chicks, since he was in elementary school. Who knows why. One reason my marriage ended was because I would not back my husband when he wanted me to tell the kid he could not go to a dance with his g/f.

I wonder if karma may have something to do with my sons attractions though. My ex was about one racist dude. He was 13 years older than I am, and it made him nuts to see blacks and whites together. His daughter, who is now 43, has been married to a black dude since she was 20 now. Great guy, takes care of her and her kids always, but her dad did not speak to her for 11 years after they got married. He is now coming around a bit I think towards her, maybe he will towards my son in a few more years, who knows.

Blah, I am rambling I know. I am just trying to get past my feelings about the BlackPeopleMeet dating site. Every site I know of has ways to narrow the field by race, religion, height, weight, on and on, and I just can not let go of the way it makes me feel. My problem I know.

Thanks for the great replies, definitely have some things to chew on for a bit.

I really do have a hard time explaining it to my mom. My mom has never said anything openly racist, but sometimes she says lil remarks that make me wonder. Like only white people do x,y,z. She refers to one of my white friends as bubba, when she knows his name( I'm really embrassed about that and don't bring him around anymore).

Hey!

That's fucking racist!

TNDommeK -> RE: racism (6/11/2012 6:33:17 PM)

I think there is a huge difference between preference and racist. Nothing wrong with wanting to date who you want. Hating others for wanting to date outside their race, is racist. When we used to live in Mississippi (yeehaaaa) we would get looks and comments all the time.

Karmastic -> RE: racism (6/11/2012 7:41:08 PM)

oh yeah, i agree. esp since in date almost exclusively outside of my own race and culture.

GrandPoobah -> RE: racism (6/11/2012 7:55:31 PM)

Not that my opinion matters, but it seems to me that there is a subtle difference between "institutionalized racism" and "personal preference."

A "whites only" lunch counter would suggest two things that we have, supposedly, moved beyond. First, that it is somehow okay to discriminate in the provision of public services. Second, that our system of laws allows and/or encourages that behavior. We all probably have preferences, but as a society we should try to work past them whenever possible. Of course, that said, we are seeing all sorts of things, usually coming from the "Right" about the "right" to refuse service...i.e. the doctor who wouldn't allow the gay man access to his HIV meds, or other doctors and/or hospitals that won't allow rape victims access to appropriate medications and treatments. We've gone from Jim Crow laws to "it's against my religion" laws, which, of course, is pure BS!

Now, all that said, here on CM there are many sub/slave profiles from white women seeking only a Black Dom. Is that automatically a bad thing? When it comes to making personal choices I think the options are different. Is that really different than asking for a specific age range, or a man taller than yourself, or someone within 50 miles of your home or....? Not really. Socially we all have "types" that we seek out, assuming, perhaps erroneously, that the people we seek as friends or lovers will be found within that group. It's probably not always true. Perhaps not even most of the time. Nonetheless, we tend to gravitate towards "types" that we believe we know, or people we think are more likely to be compatible. I guess it's no different than an Aries saying they can't possibly consider dating a Virgo. If you believe that, then, for you at least, it's "true."

In short, racism will never really die. Your true question is more along the lines of "is there a difference between institutional racism and personal values," and the answer is likely yes. We could easily smile and talk to someone "as a customer" that we would never seek out as a friend. That's probably not all that bad.

But, Hibi, I love you......I'm taking them down from the inside....I swear. I really love you and you are the only woman I have ever wanted(ignore that I think I said that to Lockit too awhile back)Say you love me too or I'll cry :(

Wait...I forgot...women are annoying when they aren't doing certain errm stuff.

About that farmer thing. No they don't met at the tractor supply store. They/we met at the ho down, and the bon fire, and the bar-b-q. An' most of us date our cousins anyway so we don't need no dang eharmony, to RHS(redneck horny singles) , or no handsinthedirtswingers.com neither.

As for the op. Racism will be around for as long as it takes people to figure out that human is a race all in itself and we all belong to it. And yes you are correct if there were a whitesingles.com people would have a fit but you know the old joke goes ...There is a BET(black entertainment tv) why isn't there a WET(white entertainment tv) because there already is. It's called every other channel. Web sites just tag themselves with different names so that people can think they belong to a group important enough to get it's own web site.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: racism (6/11/2012 8:38:12 PM)

The 'no republicans' is an homage to a deceased friend. I am apolitical these days, all the candidates appall me equally.

I was really tickled by the farmer site commericials...and really, it presumes you are NOT meeting anyone local, so who gets to lease their land? It's an issue!

I actually was really looking forward to joining eharmony when I was single but I tried three different times and each time they told me the same thing...."Sorry, we do not have anyone who matches you in your area. Please try again at a later time". [&o]

Katayotta -> RE: racism (6/12/2012 12:41:27 AM)

When you see more than two black guys wearing the same color and decide to walk away from them, it's not racism, it's common sense.

Is this comment racist or statistically accurate? I await your responses.

Moonlightmaddnes -> RE: racism (6/12/2012 7:48:56 AM)

Depends on the clothing. If I see a black buy with his ass hanging out of his pants showing off his underwear um no I want no part of him. But a good friend of mine has a black guy living next door to her and he is fun to talk to.

MissImmortalPain -> RE: racism (6/12/2012 10:21:24 AM)

Yeah, the republican thing for me was because here when you register to vote if you don't give them a party they just make you a republican automatically. I didn't know that years ago when I first voted and never had it changed because I find it funny to be listed as one when I vote however I want to. About that farm thing....you can lease land but I don't think it is nearly as common as those commericials would like people to think it is.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: racism (6/12/2012 10:24:07 AM)

Around here, the farmers sold off their land for subdivisions, and the ones that still have farms or farm income are leasing their land out to other people. Not making a boatload, either.
