Vincent, the only scientists who have published reports conflicting the widely held conclusion that humans are a major factor in the accelerated global climate problem are on the payroll of oil companies, the Koch brothers, and other corporations that have a lot to lose if there are further restrictions put on CO2 emissions.

And a few of them have reversed their stand.

If you read the links aim provided, they disagree with her statement. The other planets are NOT warming at the same rate as the earth, in fact the link provided about Mars goes on to explain that the warming trend on mars is due to extreme seasonality and its orbit.

Yep....that's it in a nutshell.

This (Earth) is our home.....it's time for us to stop polluting it and treat it like the garden it is.

(Regardless of whether or not 4 katrillion years ago, without cars or skyscrapers....the earth had higher levels of carbon dioxide than today. Who cares? We can simply....do better).

Who cares if she's correct or if every scientist on the planet is a lying sack?

In 1973 or so, the feds said (I'm probably wrong on the specifics) "you have to get to 20 mpg (or similar) before 1982".

"CAN'T BE DONE....IT'LL DESTROY AMERICA AND THE WORLD....WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU (Govt.) TO TELL US WHAT WE CAN AND CAN'T DO AS TO MARKET CONDITIONS...."

But they (the car manufacturers) did it. Remember...it "couldn't be done....it'll destroy us".

Obama said let's follow the California example and get to (I think) 35 or 40 mpg by 2020 or thereabouts....

Guess what? They said "CAN'T BE DONE....IT'LL DESTROY AMERICA AND THE WORLD....WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU (Govt.) TO TELL US WHAT WE CAN AND CAN'T DO AS TO MARKET CONDITIONS...."

And we now have cars, just a year or more after these standards were placed, that achieve that and more.

And at a cost barely a few thousand more than those with lesser technology that get as few as 20% less mileage.

But...here's the kicker....these same cars last 12 - 15 years before they need significant maintenance.

That's impressive.

It also minimizes the cost per vehicle, debating fully the other argument as to "it'll take 7 years or 8 bucks a gallon to compensate for the differential in cost...."

WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK?

Guess what? Every dollar you pay for fuel, until we can produce 100% of our own fuels....1/2 of same (from their coffers) goes towards buying bombs to blow up our cities, buildings and way of life.

Every dollar we keep here, means we get closer and closer to NOT having to send our ships (some day) to the straight of Hormuz to protect....wait for it.....the oil that you and I need to get from here to there. I'll take it one MPG at a time.

If it costs us twice as much to buy vehicles that end up putting our demand for oil BELOW that wherein which we need to go to the other side of the planet to protect our "interests" (read: Oil)...it's money well spent and I for one will happily pay 50 grand for a damned Pinto station wagon if it means we don't have to be involved in everyone else's shit.

So some of the sources contradict my stance. SOME of the sources. I guess that's what I get for only going through half of my links.

In the mean time, I'd still like to know where the GM plant is on Mars or Titan or even our Moon.

I'd also like to know where the the GM and Ford plants were during the Holocene Maximum. You know... three thousand years of higher than average temperatures?

Get back to me when you can correlate the two beyond simple solar cycles and regular climate changes that are entirely natural and have nothing to do with humanity.

See here is where you bought into another climate denial lie.

The Holocene Maximum was not global in scope (only the more northern latitudes warmed at all). It was likely due to an increase in the Earth's tilt, to around 24 degrees, and the milkanivitch cycle which resulted in the planet's closest approach to the sun to occur during Northern Hemisphere summer, at present the opposite is true.

So the rest of the solar system is not warming and the Holocene Maximum has a simple explanation and does not cast any doubt on present climate science.

Okay, how about someone who denies the truth about climate change explain something.

IF humans are not a major CONTRIBUTING factor to the ACCELERATED rate of climate change that has NO historic precedent (according to the most renowned climatologists who have nothing to gain by falsifying evidence,) then why is the ice sheets in both Greenland and Antarctica melting faster than any other time in the history of the planet?

Also, why has the planet been warming faster since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution?

Finally, why would so many scientists working independently come to the same conclusion? Are you people really claiming it is all some great conspiracy?

Here are six graphs of ice core data that are of interest.

Here is the link to the article. Apologies for not uploading the graphs directly. I tried but failed. Something about a false path??

Anyway, the first graph shows that indeed there has been a warming since 1880 of about one degree Celsius.

The second graph supports warming since 1980

The third graph shows the current temp is higher than any of the last 2000 years. Maybe it is the beginning of the Apocalypse. Sorry, couldn't resist. The devil made me do it [:D]

The fourth shows variations during the 10,000 years of the Holocene (Earth's most recent epoch) which shows a general cooling trend. The current warming is a blip up in that trend.

The fifth shows the last 800,000 years with four warmings (interglacials) equal to or warmer than the current one.

The sixth shows an increase in the magnitude of variations that began 3 million years ago. "This deepening phase, and the accompanying cycles, largely began approximately 3 million years ago with the growth of continental ice sheets in the Northern Hemisphere. Gradual changes in Earth's climate of this kind have been frequent during the Earth's 4500 million year existence and most often are attributed to changes in the configuration of continents and ocean sea ways."

Is this the End Times? I don't think so.

So, wtf is going on? 97% of published climatologists are supporting the alarm?

Information cascade? Political hysteria?

I support both ideas on this. It's a natural warming period that has been accelerated by man. If you think about the Dinosaur era, our natural temperature is much warmer than it has been in the recent past. Periodically we get hit with a super volcano or an asteroid and it plunges us into a temp ice age.

What puzzles me about the liberals is that the quickest and surest way to minimize global warming is to build about 50 nuclear power plants here in the U.S. alone and more around the world. Obviously in non earthquake zones or with even more precautions than Fukushima had. We also have only 6% of the world's population but we use 26% of the world's energy, yet we see no efforts by the democrats to limit our population growth.

Btw, they have confirmed that wind farms actually heat up the planet while in operation & the mining process for materials that make a wind generator actually releases radiation.

Two questions.

1) While I support nuclear power, I have a problem with all the tons of radioactive waste laying around. AND since the Republicans CANCELLED the Yucca mountain nuclear waste storage facility, what are you going to do with all the waste?

2) There has been ONE country in modern history that is trying to prevent excessive population growth, that is China. Do you really want us to follow their example?

Of course if the Republicans are elected, they have a plan for population control, NO HEALTH CARE FOR THE POOR AND THOSE WITH PRE EXISTING CONDITIONS, Oh yeah, I forgot they are in favor of coverage caps that would stop paying for treatments for stuff like cancer and the like.

Just curious...has anyone here studied thorium-based nuclear reactors at all?

As I understand it, thorium is many times more plentiful than uranium, at least 90% efficient, can use a much smaller reactor that is "walk away" safe, and the waste is only dangerous for a few hundred years compared to thousands of years for uranium. It also cannot be weaponized as easily as uranium.

The point of a nuclear reactor is to produce weapons grade plutonium, not electricity.
