Marini -> Syria/Russia/United States/UN--Is Syria the next Rwanda? (6/12/2012 8:25:51 PM)

Why are there no current threads about "Syria"?

Anyone who has been listening to world news lately, has to have an idea that the situation in Syria is getting worse on a daily basis.

I would like to hear/read whatever you want to say on the situation in Syria.

When or will they United States become involved in the situation with Syria?
Will the UN get involved in Syria?

I do find the Russian involvement to be a very serious issue.
Many news reports seem to indicate that the United States and Russia, hold the key to Syria's future.
Again, what about the UN?

I am neutral about whether or not the United States should become involved in Syria, but I am wondering why the UN is not doing more.

When I read and see coverage about the children being tortured, killed, and being used as human shields, I began to think, is Syria the next Rwanda?

In Syria children tortured and used as human shields

Again, I am just starting this thread for people to discuss and comment about the situation in Syria.

The SofS said that the ruskies were sending attack helicopters......a bad sign.

Frightening, serious and very bad "sign" indeed, this situation is getting uglier by the minute.

White House Announcement/Russia sending Helicopters to Syria

What is starting to go down with Russian involvement is no joke.

The other half is how/if it spills out into neighboring countries.

The leaders have the military locked down tighter than saddam did.A very exclusive clique with a only few families controlling everything and every level of the military.

They are using civilian militias (some made up from Syrian Christians) to over run a town after the army has shelled it for days/weeks.

They are doing the mass murders and other atrocities.

As to why there are no threads about Syria?

I would answer but it`s already obvious why.

I understand, but that doesn't make the situation disappear/not exist/or any less important does it?

Important to who? America is sick of war, and entanglement in the middle east. The politicians know this, Obama knows this, and drone attacks really won't help very much... Who should they target?

What would you like to see, troops on the ground? Leaks from the White House or State Department telling you what their plans are? Syria hasn't exactly been a friend to the US, why the hell should we care about what happens inside it's borders?

The issue is the strong Russian/Syrian connection. Russia is powerful and on the security council. Nothing is going to happen without Russia and without Russia's approval.

The U.S. strong position in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the negative relation with Iran, and the NATO threat of building defenses Russia opposes, all work against that.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Syria/Russia/United States/UN--Is Syria the next Rwanda? (6/13/2012 9:31:04 AM)

The UN has shown itself to useless as usual and there isn't enough oil there for us to get involved.

Musicmystery -> RE: Syria/Russia/United States/UN--Is Syria the next Rwanda? (6/13/2012 9:43:02 AM)

The UN is useless because we work to keep it useless.

Still....a brave lot for entering war zones....trying to find out the truth.

The UN is not a superpower by design.

By definition.....it`s useful/does something only when everyone agrees.

And they aren`t to blame for what`s going on or even remotely responsible.

Politesub53 -> RE: Syria/Russia/United States/UN--Is Syria the next Rwanda? (6/13/2012 11:04:42 AM)

It is said the US (And Hezbollah, Irans proxy) are arming the rebels, Russia are arming the government. I am unsure if the US want the Shia to gain power on Israels doorstep.

Owner59 -> RE: Syria/Russia/United States/UN--Is Syria the next Rwanda? (6/13/2012 11:18:46 AM)

The russians are giving the Syrians the best and latest killing technology and the Syrians are using it.It`s just about impossible for that to go on without someone trying to counter that.

The government is hoping to hold out long enough to kill every rebel in the country and their families.They may get away with it too.But no one beleives anything they say.

The rebels are doing things desperate people do when faced with annihilation and hoping upon hope to get the weapons they need to survive.

Um, do you even know what Genocide means? If SYRIANS are killing SYRIANS, are they gonna kill themselves after they kill all the other SYRIANS?

Genocide

The systematic killing of people on the basis of ethnicity, religion, political opinion, social status, etc.

(WordWeb)

So, one part of Syrian society killing another part fits the definition.

Then ride to the rescue your Majesty, America has had enough involvement in Middle Eastern affairs. Aren't the Libs so proud of Obama withdrawing the troops via Bush's plan? Isn't Obama trying to get the troops out of Afghanistan?

Now your crying havoc over Syrians killing Syrians?

Owner59 -> RE: Syria/Russia/United States/UN--Is Syria the next Rwanda? (6/13/2012 2:55:33 PM)

We`re all aware of the rightist positions......but thank for reminding us.

No one's going to like this, but no. And neither is the next President, whatever party.

Americans may have had enough involvement, but the American government is there to stay.

No, I'm defining 'genocide' for you.
