Karmastic -> Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 6:09:23 PM)

when they return home, say from work, part of your ritual? Do you see this as part of a BDSM ritual? And I mean, getting up, and greeting them at the door, and so on. Not a "hello" shout out from behind the computer screen.

Something someone else posted elsewhere about greeting their SO when they come home made me think about this. They mentioned it in the vanilla setting (wasn't a BDSM forum), but somehow I got the impression I was speaking with the s in a d/s equation. Maybe takes one to know one, or maybe it's just me reading things into it. For clarity, no, the site wasn't for BDSM or dating, it was another board.

Personally, I like to ignore someone when they walk through the door.

For many, there are some protocol type rituals that they follow for such a thing.  But really, I think for any relationship, showing your partner you are happy to see them when they return home is healthy for the relationship.  It doesn't matter if it is kneeling naked at the door with a martini resting on your back, or if it is simply greeting them at the door with a smile and a kiss (and maybe that martini, lol).

OsideGirl -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 6:21:25 PM)

At 5:30pm when I close up shop, I unlock the front door. He usually gets home between 5:45pm and 6pm. I'm usually in the kitchen making dinner (because he gets grumpy if he's hungry). When he comes in the front door, I meet him in the hallway to kiss him hello. I ask what he'd like to drink, then I finish dinner while he relaxes. When dinner is done, I serve him first, then we both relax.

well said, agree. but you don't seem to think, or at least for you, there's any BDSM component to it. it's pure vanilla, and healthy stuff for any relationship then? okay, fair enough.

TNDommeK -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 7:00:54 PM)

Here, the girls usually are at the door and greet Him with a "hello Daddy" and I greet him with a sweet kiss after He walks in. I am usually with Him when we leave though.

Winterapple -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 7:03:12 PM)

Some do, some don't, I do and think they have lot of
benefits. Like you avoid hitting someone
with complaints and negativity the minute they
walk in the door. It gives you both time to
make the transition from the outside world to
your private world.

I behaved similarly in vanilla relationships.
My mother always told me nobody likes to
be ignored or screamed at when they walk
in the door. So, I try to be there with the dog
wagging my tail.

Winterapple -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 7:04:22 PM)

And I've got a nice collection of tails.

kitkat105 -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 7:15:30 PM)

Of course! After however many hours apart, why wouldn't you greet them at the door? (Or top of the stairs in my case).

Moonlightmaddnes -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 7:25:18 PM)

Here he works on a rotating schedule so he is not home at the same time every day. If he gets home after 10 it is a hug. If it is around dinner I give him a kiss before going about cooking dinner.

Lucifyre -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 7:26:11 PM)

Not so much when he comes home because it's so late when he walks in...I am usually in veg mode by then after a long day of my own and if I'm not already in bed, I am at my computer watching one of my tv series...that usually gets me a kiss and a pinch :).
BUT when I wake him in the morning, it is always with a cup of hot coffee, 2 pieces of rye toast and a "Good morning Sir". I set them down on his night stand and then I kneel by the bed and wait for him to wake up enough to start eating and drinking his coffee...and then he pets me for awhile before he gets all the way up. Our mornings are usually really nice even if they don't start until 11 am every day hehe.

littlewonder -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 7:26:22 PM)

Usually I give him a hug and make him a cup of tea. He's been talking recently though about having me kneeling in a certain way, nude, to greet him. I guess time will tell what changes are in store.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 7:57:11 PM)

Hugh always wanted to do that naked and kneeling thing. Which irritated me to end, because after a drive across the state how do I want my coffee? Handed to me!

sincelo -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 8:17:31 PM)

No, I don't think it is a bdsm thing or a vanilla thing. I think it is often sign of a good relationship.

MissImmortalPain -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 8:33:29 PM)

hahaha Do I get up to greet him when he comes home? No, I am an amputee and if he expected me to get up and "greet" him I would get ever so annoyed (that is a polite way of saying I would punch him in the face) But I am the dom here. He used to kneel everytime he came near me to do anything (started the first day he showed up) at some point I told him to stop it. After six years things like that tend to annoy me. He still drops like a rock if I raise my voice and say the word sit.

Now THERE'S an idea!!!

In my upbringing it was customary to greet our parents with a kiss when they came home, or when we came home. I carried this into my relationships when I got older.

When the Mister comes home, I'm usually in the kitchen. I welcome him with a kiss, and ask what he'd like to drink. If I'm not in the kitchen, I get up from whatever I'm doing and happily greet him with a kiss.

poise -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 8:35:42 PM)

There isn't a protocol to do so here, but I like to offer him a pleasant welcome home.
He likes to have dinner later in the evening, so I have fresh coffee waiting for him,
as well as something to nibble on as he unwinds, like watermelon chunks and cheese. Yum!

I would say that this is more to do with me being courteous as opposed to anything BDSM-y.
Similar to what Aileen commented on, a SO is deserving of at least a warm welcome home.

BurntKitty -> RE: Is greeting your signficant other (6/13/2012 8:45:48 PM)

We're not living together as yet, but when we do I'd prefer greeting him with a beer & a blow job, but that would lead to the dinner burning and eye rolling by the other home occupant. So instead I'll update him on the sports scores after a hug & kiss.
