I'm looking at the upcoming Presidential election as a referendum on Obama. I doubt that anyone likes Romney at all, and don't think that many people dislike him substantially. So there are those that like Obama and those that dislike him.

I'm under the impression that people's minds are made up. If that's so, then there will be a huge media blitz to try to convince the razor thin Independents and swing voters to change their votes. I'm not sure anyone's persuadable at this point.

How about you? If you favor Obama, what would it take for you to vote against him? If you're anti-Obama, what would it take for you to vote for him?

If Mitch Daniels decided to change his mind, I'd drop Romney in a heartbeat... Hell, I'm not sure I could vote for him anyway.

Obama, all he needs to do is reign in the EPA, cut spending by 20% across the board, and change the tax code to a flat 20% for everyone making over $30,000, adjusted for cost of living expenses in liberal bastions like NY & Cali... That includes 20% on inheritance and capital gains.

For someone to step up to the plate with a clear and concise plan on what they will do to fix our nation. As of right now, neither side has that from what I see, but Obama imo has accomplished a lot and has a lot of ideas that he wants to implement but unfortunately is stopped by the representatives. Right now, I don't see that in Romney at all. I've not heard him say much at all.

Well, I said on another thread recently that if I believed Obama was capable of pushing through a reasonable drug legalization reform, I'd give him my vote.

Outside that, or some massive event that turned my vote for him into a larger protest statement, he'd need to have a, "road to Damascus," kind of conversion on the appropriate role of government in the lives of the people.

At the beginning of the Republican primaries, my thought was that Romney wouldn't be too bad if he was able to get Congress to work together. This sums up what I've learned since then:

Even if I disliked Obama I would never vote against him by voting for a Republican or a
Independent.
I vote on the national and state level for the
party as much or more than the person.
You can't separate the two. The candidate
brings his or her party with them.
If he had had a Democrat challenger leading
up to the nomination I don't think I
would have voted against him there either.
I do believe he is doing a good job basically
and that we are lucky as a country to have
him as our president.
How lucky seems very apparent when you
put him up against his Republican opposition.

I think the undecideds as this point, some of
who will still be undecided on election day tend
to be personality voters or voters who think
candidates have more autonomy from their
party platforms than they do.
There are no Lone Rangers in presidential
elections. You vote for the Democrat or
the Republican. Even if there is a independent
in the race like Perot or Nader, you are
voting for the Democrat or the Republican.

Obama would need to fire and prosecute Eric Holder, and fire Timothy Geithner.

Obama would need to prosecute the bankers and brokers who brought on the bailouts. Securities law is viable and does provide for criminal and civil penalties despite Obama's lies to the contrary.

Obama would need to stop backing islamic militants in Syria. Obama would need to find a way to undo the damage he has done in Egypt and Libya. Theocratic dictators are worse than secular dictators in the muslim world.

Obama would need to renounce the extra judicial murder of US citizens in a way that is credible (not sure that's possible as Obama's a pathological liar).

Obama would need to somehow rescind the Patriot Act, rescind the NDAA, and rescind Obamacare. IRS enforcement for failure to buy insurance from private insurers is abhorrent.

Obama would need to get the USA out of Afghanistan.

Obama would need to stop closing MMJ dispensaries and fire the Bush appointees who are prosecuting MMJ cases.

Obama would need to stop lying. Obama would need to show some integrity. Obama would need to show some accountability. Obama would need to drop the petulance.

Obama is a corporate stooge, a placeholder who blocks any chance for genuine opposition to Corporate America.

The Democratic party needs a long time spent in the political wilderness to recover from Obama's hypocrisy and lies.

Obama's promises are worthless so promising to do those things would not be enough. My vote will be cast entirely in opposition to Obama in 2012. The lesser of two evils ploy is laughable when Obama is involved, the man is completely Corporate owned.

The only way I'd vote for Romney is if he entered into an ironclad contract to prosecute Clarence Thomas and appoint only political moderates, as defined by people like me not as defined by nutjob right wingers, as judges.

To be blunt Obama may not be the greatest President ever but he will at least fill the coming SCOTUS vacancies, likely 3 in the next 4 years, with jurists who are not so rigidly tied to the failed right wing ideologies as people like Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito.

I used to respect Romney because he set up Mass Health (Romneycare). I lost all respect for him when he shot down the Affordable Care Act, despite its similarity to his plan and when he said he thought health insurance companies should be able to deny pre-existing conditions. Romney has zero chance of getting my vote. I'm not too happy with President Obama for giving work permits to the children of illegal aliens during a time of job shortage. Everyone knows there's a shortage of jobs right now so him adding even more competition is going to piss a lot of people off. For the US to have any chance of improvement to the health care system, President Obama needs to be re-elected. He should be working on making sure that happens, not committing political suicide. Obama will have my vote in November because he's better than pre-existing condition Romney, but I sure wish he'd realize that American citizens come first and we can't afford to help others until our economy and job market strengthens.

Surprised. Nobody has mentioned Ron Paul yet--Who is winning in the Republican race despite what the MSM has been telling you. Oh, and he hasn't canceled his campaign, like the MSM has been telling you.

The First five of this list all praised Reagan in order to get your votes.
The last man on this list called Reagan out when he defied his own word and increased government spending.

Um, DBG, I had you pegged as a solid vote for Obama. As such, my question to you is, what would need to happen for you to vote for Romney?

Nobody is voting for Romney, and not many for Obama. But there will be plenty of votes against each. In this election, the swing staters have the chance to deny one of these men the Presidency.
