I've done what I can do so far, Steve. I stopped at the grocery store after work Thursday, and the machine told me I had insufficient funds, when I swiped the card. The check she wrote was for more than I had in the account, but apparently there is a downside to being a 10 year customer with a good history, because the bank honored it. The grocery store was right there in the same shopping center with my bank branch, and they actually unlocked the door and let me in after hours to get a block on the account. My wife was on the phone with their central fraud department at the same time. Dumb Dora had only cashed the check a couple hours before, so we had to wait until Friday to see the image in their system and online. I was hoping it was just a data entry error, or something, but it was my check, with a signature that was nothing like mine. The police report is filed. The bank has placed a stop payment on every check in the box. On Friday morning, after my paycheck had gone in by direct deposit (lucky she didn't get that too!) I pulled all the money, made the mortgage payment in cash, and redeposited the rest in my secondary account at another bank. It's really frustrating right now, because this dodo still has all those checks, and God only knows when the deputies are going to knock on her door. I want to go over there myself, so firing off this thread gives me some sort of outlet for that energy. We rented that house, and the landlord is still a friend, so he was able to confirm that the name on the check is in fact the current resident.
