Nothing new to report on the police side, DD. Otherwise, I did get a mailed confirmation from the bank that there is a stop payment on every check in the order.

I have not, at this time, had an answer from the bank as to why the signatures were not compared. I've had assurances that it can't happen again, but that's hardly the same. Meanwhile, the credit union where I have my alternate account couldn't get the now primary debit card working right without follow-up, and they have far less customer support available on nights and weekends. Setting up the online access, for example, requires calling between 9-5 weekdays, while I am online, to make it happen.

Had the branch where they opened up for me after hours not been available the minute we spotted this, we still could have gotten the fraud report in in a timely manner by the 24 hour phone support. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do for new accounts, and direct deposit. I'll be getting a paper check next payday.

It's been close to 2 weeks...have the police arrested her yet?

Have you been able to get all of the financial arrangements straightened out with your credit union?

I hope all gets resolved soon for you!

I made a stink with my bank earlier in the week, because they have yet to send the security video to the detective, or he hadn't yet seen the email, after spending 20 of his 24 duty-hours until then, this week, sitting in the hall, outside a courtroom, in which case he'll find two or more copies, when he gets back. I called this afternoon, but his phone just rang.

Now here's a tip for anyone who seems to be having trouble getting something trivial taken care of with a massive corporation, and their requirements that you have a name or extension number to navigate their headquarters phone system.

Press releases. Lots of little news websites dedicated to business and investing will just cut and paste the whole press release right into their content. Including the media contact person. [;)]

I had to call two more numbers given out in voicemails before getting a live one, but I do believe that nice lady in media relations has the numbers in her contacts to make sure the cooperation level at the subject branch goes way up, and that the officious little prick in the downtown LA office, who informed me that he can only tell me they have the request from the police, but not whether or when they will be honoring it, and then "ended the call," with me, gets a word about his customer service deficiencies.

The nice lady in media relations had the email address of someone, it seems. I had a return call from an even nicer lady in the executive affairs office. She had already spoken with the branch manager, and had emailed the head of the department where I encountered the gentleman with the incorrect level of responsiveness to concerns.

Right about now, the cops are out busting people for fireworks, instead of speeding, Hill, but yeah, she'll be able to go to a bbq tomorrow, if she wants.

Dumb Dora had an arrest warrant served on her this morning, and a search warrant executed on her home for the remaining checks. The police didn't find them, and she claimed to have thrown them away. She's in jail, and will probably be there for several days, a least. She's a first offender, and will likely get a deal for time served, probation and maybe some time cleaning catboxes at the animal shelter.

Why do I suspect the family will have the house cleaned up behind the search warrant, faster than I got my accounts straightened out?

At least she's having to sit her ass in jail for
a little while. If she's never had a run in with
the law before it's probably freaking her
out a little. And probation will cramp her
style. Someone might have clues her
in to destroy the other checks.

To bad you didn't get to see her face
when they arrested. I'm sure that was
a priceless moment.

At least something was done and she
is being punished. I hope you get all
the loose ends tied up soon.

I had a form letter today from the District Attorney (and that's a return address that caught my attention pretty quickly). Besides providing me with a handy copy of my rights, it came with Dora's full name, and the case number. Off the Sheriff's inmate locator, to see that she wasn't out that afternoon, or on Monday, but was assigned to permanent housing, and is being held without bail, with her first court appearance still several weeks away.

OP,I know it can be a pain to be there for her court date,but in the 2 break-ins I have had my showing up for court and talking to the prosecuting attorney before the trial,I made sure the break-in artists weren't slapped on the wrist and set free like they had been in the past.It does help that I live in a very rural county and everyone on the law enforcement side knew me and knew the ones that lived in my area were tired of these clowns breaking into homes and shops stealing things to support their "habits".I'm glad you are finally getting a little justice here,maybe Dumb Dora might learn a lesson here.

I'm relieved for you that she is finally getting her due, but I am stunned that it took as long as it did. I know what you had said about having the police taking care of more "serious" crimes, but still....that says something about law enforcement in your community...that it's sadly inadequate...probably due to not enough funding and just not enough live bodies in law enforcement as a whole. :(
