ORIGINAL: spankmepink11 I'm sure there will be many who do not agree with me, but please do not mistake this post for hate mongering. I've been distressed...from day one with the amounts of "settlements" bestowed upon the families of the unfortunate victims of 9/11. Who dictates the value of a human life? Is the loss of life of a 9/11 victim more profound than that of a young soldier , killed in combat, whoose whole life was ahead of them? Is the death of a middle aged father/mother of 4 who is gunned down in the street due to senseless gang violence (which to me is our own special form of terrorism) less important, or worth less than someone who was a passenger on one of those airplanes? Says who?? My opinion may not be popular, and i hold no ill will towards anyone, but i don't believe our tax dollars should have gone above and beyond any survivior benefits that others receive....ie....SS for those with dependant children and spousal social security benefits that widows and widowers are granted. For the sake of argument....did the government make multi million dollar settlements on the families of the vitims of the oklahoma city bombings? No. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, ( yes i know this is going back a bit) were any civilians who were killed in that action's families given "settlements" by the government?....No. Just food for thought.... Some good points, spankmepink. Edited to add: Ann Coulter is a horrific shrew.
