I'm a shoe slut. Over 40 pair and counting....

Sexually, I'm monogamous and adventurous with one happy sadist.

RaspberryLemon -> RE: What does "slut" shown a profile mean to you? (6/21/2012 2:01:55 PM)

Slut has negative and derogation connotations to me. "Slut" in my mind means someone who has lots of sex with lots of people regardless of the consequences or how it affects others, and completely separates sexuality from morality. Often times also referring to someone who behaves as if they are nothing more than a sexual object for use or viewing by anyone and everyone.

That being said, I realize "slut" has tons of definitions with different connotations ranging from offensive and derogatory to positive, confident, and even affectionate or humorous. It all depends on how you see the word and how it is intended when it's used. I personally would not ever consider myself to be nor call myself a slut, and I wouldn't like it if someone called me a slut. Others who see "slut" as having a more positive or even neutral definition might have no problem with it, but that's how I see the word.

DesFIP -> RE: What does "slut" shown a profile mean to you? (6/21/2012 2:54:04 PM)

These days it's frequently used to mean you have a great liking for something. Like Burnt Kitty's shoe slut example. Or the term pain slut.

Honestly, the term is used so loosely that I would need to know what the person who said it meant it to mean. And whether they were being serious or ironic.

The last thing I would do is assume I knew what a total stranger meant by it.

Oh, and these days lots of women use it in a political sense. "I'm a slut and I vote".

littlewonder -> RE: What does "slut" shown a profile mean to you? (6/21/2012 3:53:47 PM)

I have always found it weird and strange when I see women "taking back" the word. I guess I'm a stickler for what words actually mean and not what people want to always change to their liking.

Miriam-Webster Dictionary

Definition of SLUT
1
chiefly British : a slovenly woman
2
a : a promiscuous woman; especially : prostitute b : a saucy girl : minx

Synonyms: bimbo [slang], chippie (also chippy), doxy (also doxie), fancy woman,
hoochie [slang], hussy, Jezebel, minx, quean, floozy, tramp, trollop, wench, whore

Whether the person be male or female D type or s-type- if they described themselves as slut, what does that mean to you ?

When I see someone call themselves that (and I admit I'm thinking of a female here), then what I read into it is something like this...

I like sex and I like to be flagrantly alternative.

In short, I think it means "kinky" with a dash of in-your-face thrown in.

The meaning of any word changes over time, with context and depends on what the user understands by it.

A load of people would call themselves a whore, here, but but only a small minority actualy mean they will accept monetary payment for sexual acts.
I would take the use of it here to indicate a high sex drive but that is itself variable, like saying someone has a high pain threshold. Compared to what, exactly?

Like any statement on a profile or on the web, its an indication and not a substitute for getting to know someone and finding out their base levels and expectations.

Hehe I don't think many people in Britain equates 'slut' with slovenly anymore :-P

Incidentally a chippy here is usually the local fish and chip takeaway

Your honest opinion would be useful.

I try and figure out what the person describing themselves as a slut meant by that. I don't assume everybody means the same thing when they use that word.

This:

A slut can be monogamous.

A woman who has totally ditched society's 'expectations' about what a good girl should do and has discovered the pleasure that her body can cause and feel is on her way.
When she decided to completely disassociate herself from what 'other people' think and go her own way. Then, she can become a slut.

The monogamous slut just spends all that energy one one lucky person.

Some day, I hope to have that again.

There's being a slut, then there's being His slut. Big difference.

Focus.

Lucylastic -> RE: What does "slut" shown a profile mean to you? (6/22/2012 4:58:45 AM)

Openly being a slut was me not giving a damn what people thought about the way I lived my life, back in the 70s and 80s. I enjoyed se, I didnt see the double standard... fuck the world Im my own person. type of thing, now 30 years later, its a political statement. Not because I sleep with any available dick walking.
However if you call me a slut as a derogatory term, Ill rip you face off for being a dickwipe with no imagination

chatterbox24 -> RE: What does "slut" shown a profile mean to you? (6/22/2012 8:05:47 AM)

I really dislike the word slut. To use it to describe yourself openingly is like putting sign on one's self I AM ASKING YOU TO DISRESPECT ME. TO THINK LESS OF ME. IM EASY AND PROUD OF IT. AND I PROBABLY DONT TAKE PRECAUTIONS.

BUt thats me, thats how I view that word. ITs negative in every sense to a woman.

But I see to others it is a statement is " I am who I am like it or lump it. "

MercTech -> RE: What does "slut" shown a profile mean to you? (6/22/2012 8:46:09 AM)

Ok, I remember the high school locker room definition...

A slut is a girl who will have sex with about anyone. A bitch is a girl that will have sex with anyone but YOU.

I guess I'm a conversation slut myself.

How many partners does one need to be promiscuous?

Bryan Fischer, spokesman for the American Family Association, who would like to see contraception outlawed for all but married couples (stay tuned for a P&R thread about him) would no doubt consider me a slut but for some time now I haven't had enough different sexual partners to qualify for the label.

kalikshama -> RE: What does "slut" shown a profile mean to you? (6/22/2012 9:33:23 AM)

I wouldn't consider using the label without prefacing it with "ethical."

The Ethical Slut

Review:

I have always loved sex, but growing up in the South, felt a bit guilty about that. Even though I had open-minded parents, the society around me shaped my beliefs more than I often like to admit.

I found this book very helpful as it showed me that I am not the only one to feel as I do about sex and, more importantly, that I'm not a "bad" person for feeling this way.

Whether or not you are interested in having more sex, or justifying the sex you already have, this book will help you to work with the mental issues around that.

Being an "ethical slut" is about much more than sex though-- it's about having the courage to express your feelings and following your desires. It's about expanding yourself to new levels and going way beyond the limits society has set for you.

Of course, that is my definition. One of the great things about this book is that it allows you to define "ethical slut" for yourself. The authors throw it all out there. Bisexuality, multiple partners are once, marriage, leather, bondage, and more is included here. You pick what works for you. You're also free to change that at any time.

How exactly does it do any of those things?

I'm a slut. But when I say that, I mean it in the literal descriptive definition of the word.

I'm a slut because I am promiscuous.
I'm promiscuous because I've had sex with far more men in my lifetime than I can possible recall. I estimate it's probably around or over a 100. At the same time, I've exclusively been monogamous for the last 5 years or so. I always use protection. I don't consider myself easy at all, because I have never had sex with a man when it wasn't of my own choosing, the fact that I happen to enjoy having sex doesn't mean it's easy to get me in bed when I'm not in the mood, or don't like a guy. I respect myself and I sure as fuck will not put up with others disrespecting me.

So how exactly is it that I'm asking you to disrespect me, to think less of me, to think of me as easy, and to assume that I don't use condoms when I say I'm a slut, when the only thing that I'm actually communicating -and that the WORD itself actually communicates- is that I've had sex with a lot of different people?
Why is it that you hang so many different concepts to this one word, and ignore the one actually thing that the word is intending to communicate?

I think because the word means different things to different people who all assume their use of it is the only possible one. Of all people those in this lifestyle should know better.

When I was a kid the word 'Spaz' was used as a highly offensive slang term for some people with 'physical impairments'. Now its a trendy brand of wheelchair much desired by the younger 'differently-abled' and a proud possesion. The world went and changed on me again, damn it! I love language drifting if only for the outrage on my Guardianista friends face when two kids zipped past her with the SPAZ logo's on their rides ....

Well I pretty much agree with chatterbox24. The OP was of using the word "slut" in a profile where strangers can assume, define and judge all they want - and I would now assume you do describe yourself as such, IF your profile could be found....

Me, I'm still something of a romantic who seeks relationships moreso than partners and looking at profiles comes from something interesting catching my attention. And I'm just not interested in dating the "town bike", no matter how the self-proclaimed "slut" wants to hash it.

I recently read a profile of a fem/sub who, presumably referring to general experience, said she was new to the lifestyle but had done a few gang-bangs. 'X'ed outa there pretty quick, too - and lifestyle experience is not an issue to me.

Focus.
