He had moderated since personally having his little world rocked by some serious American munitions

Compared to many governments in that region and to who is potentially replacing him yes, he was a moderate

I suppose it is relative but I still wouldn't describe Gaddafi as moderate even if he was somewhat more secular. Relative secularists like Mubarak and Ben Ali especially were a different matter even if they were undemocratic.

Shame you didnt mention that crap when you were spouting off about "liberating Iraq".

You dont change though, you failed to stand up and defend your well thought out "Gaddafi The Moderate" claim.

And, there, Sanity, is where you open up a huge can of worms. Our foreign policy has frequently involved propping up strongmen that are hated by their subjects. We end up looking pretty horrible if they turn on us (e.g., Manuel Noriega).

We might as well try to work with the governments that the people themselves support. This is a combination of idealism and cynicism, but I suspect when we dangle the prospect of bribes (aka foreign aid) in front of a government, that they will listen.

Working with people, rather than against them, is one step to easing Muslim resentment. Demolishing those damn madrassas would be another.

It appears that you believe that the US is in a position to decisively influence events in the Middle East, a quaint but oh-so-dated concept.

Iraq and Afghanistan has ruthlessly exposed the limits of the US's military power. Politically the US couldn't even persuade or bribe the Israelis to stop their colonisation of the West Bank. And if you have such little influence with your 'friends', precisely how much influence does the US have in the Arab world where it's been on the nose for decades?

The US is a bit player in the ME nowadays, something that the people of the region are very much aware of, even if it hasn't quite sunk into the backwoods of the US Right yet. Best you abandon this delusion asap.

No Steven, you are confusing the issue. We are not propping up strongmen, we are handing the Middle East over to Islamic extremists though the use of our airstrikes and our drones, and our intelligence services, our eyes in the sky and diplomatic pressure... Pressuring these states, as well as our allies

Look into it and you will see. We are ushering forth this long dark Arab winter. This is our doing, and this is the real war on women

Fresh Yahoo headline today:

Egypt's Morsi 'to rethink Israel pact, build Iran ties'

Islamic extremists dont need a reason to hate us, that we are not them is enough. That our Hollywood stars show the flesh that they do, that we consume alcohol, that we dance and cavort and read Hustler magazine is all the reason they need.

You know this, too.

Again, in Iraq, we built up their society and their schools and their hospitals and other infrastructure. Taught them to vote, and held their hand as they developed into a stable society, hold their hand today

Despite kens lies, despite the widespread ignorance... We have invested heavily in Iraq, blood and treasure both, to make it a better place then when your beloved Saddam and sons were raping and torturing the people of Iraq, literally

Invading their neighbors and shooting at our jets

Contrast that with Obamas policy of assassination, and leaving vast voids of power for al-Qaeda and similar related organizations to exploit

If he believes it, he's away with the fairies. Seriously deluded.

If he doesn't believe it, then it's the usual right wing propaganda - lies and sanctimonious trash. In short, BS.

Either way it's drivel.

Firstly, you wont find one quote of mine backing that madman Saddam, but feel free to look.

Secondly, as usual you are spouting crap, nothing new there though. How soon you forget the massive void after the intial Iraq war "2nd one" and the violence that came with it. Whats obvious is that yet again you fail to answer the point but drift off into sanityland. On top of which you throw out a few baseless slurs.

Yes the two bombs friday and the wave of terror attacks against the shia, the iraqi torture facility still open after claims of closing it over a year ago...

There has been 53 billion made available to Iraq for rebuilding projects.

Baghdad is STILL without reliable electricity. The city still has sewage in the streets BUT the oil infrastructure is almost repaired.

Considering the LIES that President Bush told to justify the invasion of Iraq, and how many troops were killed and wounded for those lies, and the fact the infrastructure would not be in as bad shape as it is if WE had not blown hell out of it.

Yup, Iraq has been a great investment.

Blessings upon GW Bush from the 4500 young men and women who gave their lives for building schools and hospitals, and for teaching the Iraqi how to vote. I remember clearly when the Iraqi sent emissaries to beg us to share our wisdom. Oh yeh, the parents and children of those killed also give thanks to the war criminal GWB.

I clicked through to Sanity's source, and it compares only the number of American deaths in Afghanistan with the murder rate in Chicago (which is, I agree, far too high).

If one adds in the deaths of Afghans and soldiers from other nations, the death total in Afghanistan soars well past Chicago's, I'm sorry to have to report.

Democracy is imperfect, I agree, and there's always the possibility that folks will elect a government we don't like. What form of government would you prefer instead?

I tend to like Churchill's take on the question: "Many forms of Government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

How is it that everything that happens in Chicago is related to President Obama? This is just dumbidy dumb-dumb......

He didn`t move there till his mid twenties. He`s not the emperor of Chigago.Chicagoins are not leppers.

And why is Chigago somehow worse than other American cities? If Obama lived outside of Des Moine Iowa, would we be treated to the crime stats of frick`n Des Moine by con-whiners?

The sunbelt....is also known as the murder-belt and the born out of wedlock-belt and the poverty belt.....and are mostly red-states.......

Oh and btw republicans.....NOBODY get`s the dig or gives a fuck about Chicago as it pertains to your attempts to insult normal Americans.

I find it hilarious that a NRA fan is trying to score a political point by using deaths caused largely by people using their 2nd amendment rights and blaming it on the President.
Hilarious in a macabre fashion.
