The court also ruled that Arizona has the right to check for papers after a traffic stop. And they will. Sheriff Arpiao will have to put up a couple of more tents in the desert.

Nope, the Court did not give the State the right to detain suspected aliens beyond the time needed to check their immigration status. Arpiao, the Bull Connor of immigration, will quickly find himself with an injunction issued against him. Only the Federal Agents can detain an undocumented person.

A synopsis of the Court ruling in Arizona v United States

Too bad the Court did not specify how much time it would give Sheriff Arpiao to check the citizenship/immigration status of detained suspected aliens. Only Sheriff Joe will know where those suspected aliens are detained. :-)

I don't. I (and many of you) know Government has only three legal functions, 1) Deliver the mail. 2) Protect it's citizens from threats, foreign and domestic. 3) Collect funds to do functions 1 and 2.

Therefore, it is clear Arizona will do what it needs to do to protect it's borders and it's citizens no matter what. Damn right. You go, Governor Jan Brewer. You are a hero. Call out the Arizona National Guard if you need. But remember just to hold on. It won't be long now till January.

The calvary will come.

Indeed! And when the Federal calvary comes they will have this SCOTUS ruling to back them up on deporting all ILLEGAL immigrants by any means necessary.

For such reasons the Court left open the possibility of revisiting that section. Sheriff Bull Arpiao will hasten the final knockout.

But Arturas doesn't care about that one.

So? Obama hasn't cared about the Civil Rights Act (halting the prosecution of those three Black Panthers), the Defense Of Marriage Act, the War Powers Act, etc., etc.

Owner59 -> RE: Anybody care how the Supremes ruled on the Arizona Immigration Law? (6/26/2012 8:54:06 AM)

Most of the AZ law was struck down but the cons got to keep their most favorite part.....the German one.

Still.....this won`t change the minds of those sports teams and businesses and individuals that are boycotting AZ.

The ruling isn`t all of a sudden going to make folks support conservatives or get cons more political capital.

Considering the typical attitude from the meanies and Arpiaobots..............why should they?

The Defense of Marriage Act? Cons can't make up their minds whether they are for States' rights or agin em.

It's the premise of the OP there, Sparky.

Its not about protecting citizens, its really about money $$$$$.. some of the towns/cities in AZ wouldnt exist if it were not for prisons for profit by throwing illegals in jail.. its big business, dude.. these are also the corps that rent out slave prisoners for less than the cost to outsource to China, in the US and taking jobs away from ya'll.. Really? Is Arizona now planning to steal the hill outside Jerusalem on which Jesus was crucified? Is this something like the mountain coming to Muhammad?

Hey, they got the London Bridge, didn't they? Anything is possible in this country.[:D]

For instance a constitutional scholar might just have his signature law found unconstitutional, how embarrassing is that?

A clinical narcissist cannot be embarrassed but, rather, only pissed off to the point of retaliation for subordinating their omnipotency like Obama just did to AZ because the SCOTUS did not nix the entire AZ anti-immigration law.

Seems #2 applies here, especially as the court ruled immigration as a federal matter.

Yes. Immigration is exclusively a federal matter. Defense of citizens is not. The Governor is dealing with the defense of Arizona's citizens.

What, the Second Amendment is not a sufficient protection? Tsk, tsk.

And then that last piece will be kicked by SCOTUS as they explicitly warned in the ruling yesterday. If Arizona uses the law to harass hispanics or racially profiles those it chooses to demand proof of residency from or if the process results in legal residents or citizens being detained longer than they would have been without the law the Court said they'll throw it out.

I believe they may check only if the have reason to believe they are illegally in the country.

I wonder what their reasons will be…hmmmmm… Heh I know… Hispanic…I mean come on are they going to carry signs… “I’m here illegally”?

I guess it is not OK to stop Blacks because they are black but OK to stop Hispanics because they are Hispanic… I think they should stop white Arizonian politicians because the must be too damn stupid to drive.

Butch

Actually the majority opinion was clear that the majority would find the remaining section unconstitutional if it was applied in that manner.

They're for States' rights if a State might be planning to try to fuck up Roe vs wade or otherwise pursue a Religious Right policy by doing so.
They're against States rights if a State appears to be to the left of them in some piece of local legislation.

When Obama visited, our hero the Governor met him on the tarmac and said "I ain't skeer'd and I don't need your hope and change crap so get back on the horse you rode in on!"
