Another great big congrats on the being clean a year. As far as the birthday thing goes, think about what is personal and special to him. Here are some things I have done for my guy. He has a lengthy background in history and is considered an expert in some niche areas. I took some Civil War era historic memorabilia he had, bought a light box and some fabric, and made a display case that looks great on the wall as well as preserves the memorabilia. Needless to say, he loves it! I spent about 15 bucks on that gift (not counting memorabilia). This year I am working on a way to display his long guns and his swords. Again, these are historic collectors' items. I am thinking a glass fronted display case that would keep the dust off, hang on the wall, but would open so the items could be cleaned occasionally. See what I mean? Take what you know about him and do something special, that no one else would do, b/c no one else knows him like you do.
