Edwynn -> RE: Would you leave Facebook if a better social network came out? (6/30/2012 9:02:12 AM)

OTOH, the 'diary' was the 'Facebook' in times past, one could say. The girls showed their diary to their closest cousins and friends, so not meant to be all inclusive and 100% personal. Carrie Berry's diary is still available, at the library or on the internet. A "must read," to put in those terms. Internet files, whatever the network, have to get cleared out eventually. One of my sisters is the family librarian, so we still have hard copies of some of the best writing I've ever seen. Then again, I threw out half a ton of useless family drivel when my mom died. Don't tell my sister, please. The picture of my grandmother's friend leading a goat that was hauling a child's wagon (proper sized harness for the goat, the whole shebang, this apparently an everyday thing, in that time), with two small kids in it, in Macon GA in 1904 is beyond priceless. Yes, we have the original photo print of that event. My grandmother herself got her nose bent, in a most alluring way, in getting run over by a horse-drawn wagon a year later. She survived, safe to say, and the picture of her holding her youngest brother in her lap while five other siblings to the side (and one further yet to come, from her smiling mama, behind her), and 15 cousins to either side, and half-a-bazillion aunts and uncles, all in the same picture ... made me say; what the f*ck did we DO to ourselves!?
