Maybe. Some of the people I've worked with could be mistaken for aliens.

This sorta came up elsewhere, but that thread is badly enough off into the minutiae of a tangent, already.

What are your thoughts on extra-terrestrial life? Do we have the whole universe to ourselves? Are we unique and special? For those who take that position, I'm most curious as to the basis for it. Does it come from a religious foundation that we were created in the image of God? Are there any atheists holding this point of view?

Some could say that they don't believe life exists beyond our planet, because there is no evidence of it, and that is a fair answer, but I would then ask if they believe in the possibility of such, and bring them right back in to being able to participate.

I don't think we are all that special, and I think it is extremely likely that there is life throughout the universe. We are an electrified soup, at the far end of some millions of years of evolution. No big deal.

What say you?

Oh don't get me started Rich.
I am spiritual person, and I have always felt "connected" to the universe.

Facts about other galaxies-from physics.org
According to scientists there are billions of galaxies out in the "universe".
In those galaxies, I believe there are planets, life forms, other dimensions, and concepts that most humans can't even conceive of.

I am a Believer, and I have always believed that the GOD/GODDESS I serve, created the earth, moon, sun, other galaxies, and other life forms, the possibilities are infinite.

**THIS is one reason that I AM a BELIEVER.**
These galaxies did not appear out of/or from "nothing".
No one can tell me I don't have a Creator.

At the end of the day, I believe with all my heart, words similar to the lines from the Twilight Zone.
There is another dimension, of time, space, travel, and infinite possibilities.
Humans are a tiny drop in a big bucket, and I will never stop marveling at how utterly awesome it all is!

I believe earth/humans are but a tiny drop, in the scheme of the universe.

To each their own/but I can't imagine what it is like to not be a BELIEVER, and it's not something I want to experience.

Peace

You really don't want to know some of the thoughts that cross my mind.
lol

There is so much more to the universe, that humans can't imagine nor conceive.

Republicans are actually members of the NWO and Illuminati and are in reality lizard men/human hybrids from an alien planet.

C'mon, Owner59. Forget the politics, and little green men, and tell us if you think the streams that flow down mountains on other planets in temperate zones would have something like trout in them. Would there be moss on the rocks? Woods? Something like deer in the woods? Sentient species, neither too hive-minded for innovation and discovery, nor so independent that you would never see two of them pick up a log and move it?

I LOVE that movie, "They Live".
It is an 80s classic, it combines campy humor and science fiction.
I love the scene where he has to beat up the Black guy to make him put on the glasses, that is what it would take for many to "see".
Owner, do you own a pair of those glasses?

South Park did a recreation of that fight scene, Mari, only with Timmy and Jimmy having the fight. I very nearly hurt myself laughing, the first time I saw it.

I suspect he just Googled for alien images, but hey, there was a professional wrester in the cast, so maybe.

If we buy the theory that the universe is infinite, then there are an infinite number of opportunities for extraterrestrial life. it's easy to prove the existence of such life - a single example would suffice. I have no clue how to DISprove the existence of such life - even if all known places in the universe did not produce it, there would still be UNknown places, an infinite number of them, that could host such life.

DS, personally I feel that many that don't believe in GOD, would also question and need PROOF of so many other "possibilities".
Being a Believer, everything is possible in my world, so I just laugh when people need "proof" of just about everything.

That fight is a classic!!!
It's funny I enjoy that movie more now, than in the 80s.
Jimmy fought damn hard not to put those glasses on.

I believe in God and I still don't believe there are other planets with sentient beings. I don't need proof though. It's just simply my belief in science. I can believe in both God and science and both being extremely compatible with each other.

All Believer's are not the same nor are all non-Believers {of course}, at least on this planet!

I meant it might be EASIER for someone who Believed to be OPEN to believing in life in other galaxies than non-Believers.

It is of course possible for an atheist to believe in life on other planets!

I think these researchers have a pretty good hypothesis on why they feel there are not sentient beings elsewhere.

I don't get into debates with links, I could find 2 million to support my views and you could find 2 million to support your views.

At the end of the day, to each their own.
This is one of those "issues" you either tend to believe or not believe.

I wasn't looking for a debate. I just offered it up because it was a hypothesis that i enjoyed reading on the subject and just thought I'd share it. <shrug>

I "get it" I could seriously find millions of articles by scientists supporting my beliefs/views.

This is almost like discussing religion, and can be debated for infinity.
So, I like the to each their own, sort of deal.

There are billions of galaxies we really don't know anything about, and until someone can tell me for a FACT, that knows what is out "there", especially in galaxies that humans can't even locate, I won't change my mind.

90% of Distant Galaxies Unseen

We can only see about 10% of the galaxies that are out there?
Why would I consider changing my mind?
lol
So I doubt I change my mind, on earth.
