I did not do it to be provocative, Bita. I seriously don't understand. We never had neighborhood watch while I was growing up. We didn't need it. This is why it doesn't connect for Me.

Does this subject call Me? Yes. That has very little to do with it.

I grew up in small town and inner city both (couple of different locations, each), and one thing common to either circumstance is that if you are being followed, it is universally understood that the follower intends harm or some other sort of ill will. The gated community where the shooting under discussion here occurred was somewhere in between, but in any case large enough where not every neighbor knew every neighbor. I will tell you this; not until this thread or a couple of others concerning the Zimmerman/Martin incident have I EVER seen where it needed to be actually explained that being followed is NOT socially acceptable, not in any context.

I'll read it whenever I get around to it. But it doesn't escape notice here that when I tried to play nice and be light-hearted about the situation a few posts ago (after your instigating and confrontational attack), you found it in your heart to spit in my face as response. You certainly had enough ability for that. All the posts after that were just a matter of giving appropriate response, considering the other party in question.

I'm not a 'champion' of anything. Pointing out one or another particular error as occurring in society does not make one a priori a champion of anything. Most neighborhoods I grew up in, since you brought the subject up, actually sucked, though exceptions are noted. I had to spend too much time protecting myself and my younger brothers and sisters from the neighborhood to figure out what I could do for the neighborhood. In later life, I had too many nieces and nephews in the house to have time to worry about what I could do for the neighborhood, though I was certainly glad that the neighborhood they were exposed to was a f*ck of a lot better than the neighborhoods I grew up in. I think that we improve neighborhoods by improving ourselves and doing whatever we need to for the family, if that is sufficient response. The only way I can explain the 'neighborhood improvement' situation in my case is that a lot of parents did the right thing as time went on and/or had other family members to help out when needed. I am almost more chump than champion, but my now-grown nieces and nephews like me enough, and even some neighbors like me.
