I'm looking for information on amperage and voltage on cattle prods. For some reason, none of the ones I've seen list their outputs.

This would obviously be for play, I just want to get a gage on how high the risk for burn and so on is.

Funny thing-I was at a party tonight and a guy had a cattle prod, leaving me dying of jealousy...and I was wondering pretty much the same thing :-)

And you likely never will. A few manufacturers will say things like "minimum output 9000 volts" but I've never seen any list amps. The only way you'll ever know for sure is to use a multimeter on them yourself.

The big ones? I can tell you that they will drop your ass to the ground crumpled like paper.  They will do it to a 8-1200 pound calf.  And will rock the fuck out of a 1600 pounder, but not necessarily drop them to the ground, but they will look like they been kicked square in the nuts for several seconds.  And they lose their interest in being in that vicinity.  They make them lower in volts to just get them to jump and move too.

You don't have to worry as much about the Volts as you do amps 5-10 amps can kill a human, and can cows too,  cattleprods are very low amps, but stef gets the winning ticket, measure it for amps with a multimeter, they are generally not listed. (cuz most of everybody doesn't care).

I've seen them used on sites like wiredpussy enough to really not worry too much about their safety. At least as long as you're not being an idiot and use it directly on the heart or certain arteries and such. I haven't found any information online for modifications to make them BDSM "safe". But I did find plenty accounts of people who just use them as is and are having a blast with them (toppy people more than bottomy people for some bizarre reason). At the same time I think it's still really too "big" of a toy to go wild with without first doing my homework... hence wanting to know what the actual outputs end up being.

That's kinda the effect we're after, except that the suspension hooks should keep me looking like I'm still on my feet. [:)]

The only time I've seen them in use was on hogs. I've never really got to feel the full effect myself (once through a heavy layer of denim)... though the threat that was there and that was enough to make me go running for the hills.
I HATE the sound of them almost as much as the big boars seemed to hate it, especially on contact with metal. So while it would (fingers crossed) probably be primarily for scaring the fuck out of me... at the same time I'm twisted enough to wonder how exactly it would feel right on ones clit. Not that I'd ever want to try that... obviously... or maybe I do... but well of course not... [8|]

I've got a taser and have managed hit myself with that a few times, I'm told that's far worse than a cattle prod, so I think it won't be too terrible bad. At least electricity doesn't keep stinging for God knows how many hours after the blow.

uh huh.....he has one of these little electric shockers called a stinger and even that friggin thing hurts! Even though he'll tell you differently. UGH. I sooo hope he doesn't find out the amps. [8D]

Yeah it's on my shopping list too.

I do hope you realize that if you get one he'll probably get a branding pick a dragon mouth in response, as well as using the indirect play technique to make his nice needle work a little more interesting... right?

Be careful what you wish for... cattle prods may turn out not to be that bad after all.

As far as the amps go, my husband got a brand new cattle prod that I'll be testing for its output after we get back home in two weeks. I'll be sure to let Kana know the results... I'm helpful that way you know... [:)]

But darling, as far as sadism goes, it's very possible that the only difference between Kana and me is that he's got tons more experience AND somebody to take his sadistic whims out on.

So considering that, I really don't mind indulging my inner sadist just a little vicariously through him.

Way outside of my venue as electrical play tends to just remind me of catching the electric fence growing up on the horse farm. But, I think I remember someone saying that they did cattle prods by removing one of the batteries to reduce the "ummph".

I knew a security guard years ago who "volunteered" for a demonstration at one of their meetings dealing with different threats. They hit him with a cattle prod, he was over 300 pounds. Dropped his ass, minor convulsions and then heaves, vomiting.

Have fun I suppose...
