First time I was involved in a Presidential Campaign, I was in college, I thought I knew everything, and I knew that John Anderson could beat Carter and Reagan!...

LOL....I wrong headed as I could be!

I learned a lot about how things worked, how much harder it was then I had thought, and just how hopeless an independent campaign could be.

My father the staunch, organized former state wide Democratic party chair, never said a word, just smiled and shook his head at me....A LOT.

I've been excited by the candidate I cast my vote for every single time (except for 2000, Gore did not impress me as a canidate).

Gore was tough to get excited about, I always thought of him as the Cardboard candidate.
I was always surprised that he did as well as he did against GWB. In his first campaign, GWB enjoyed the most Republican, and broad based support I had seen since Reagan, I really thought it would be a slam dunk for GWB. For Gore to do as well as he did without using Bill, (a horrible mistake) amazed me.

Um McGovern? Remember that guy?

Okay so this answer so so dates me. I liked Perot too and I loved Clinton. Okay he was a horn dog but you know that's not the worst thing in the world. Especially since I am not so sure he "cheated" cuz I think him and Hill had an open relationship that was not made public.

Ron Paul! What a relief to find a politician whose positions don't change. How in the world do Romney/Obama voters know who they're voting for?

Certainly making that public wouldn't have been a vote winner in the bible belt...

I got excited about Obama. Not just him as a candidate, but the race with him and Hillary had drama.

One of the weird things about the 2012 GOP race was the pacing - it was always "Romney vs. insertname" the whole time, when each challenger overtook Romney, lasted for two or three weeks, and then flamed out. The race lacked any effective drama.

drama? sure, you might get a little drama but then you pay for it for the next 4 years!!!

I think the last Canadian election had a rather dramatic ending, the Liberal party was totally decimated.. what a fall, from once having a stronghold on so many elections to.. becoming nothing.. You Americans need that kind of club and clout with your elections and parties.. too bad you dont,.. then you might see some real drama..

There was definitely plenty of drama in the kenyan/Hilary thing. It was somebody in her camp started that stupid "no birth certificate" nonsense, wasn't it?

I always found that ironic. Kennedy apparently slept with half the women on the planet, one of whom was linked back to Sam Giancana......but he's still worshipped. Clinton gets a blow job and we spend $40million to investigate.

Kennedy also got shot through the head. I suspect that might have some bearing on how perceptions of him differ from those of Clinton.

Unfortunately, his positions should change. Really good ideas mixed in with plenty of lunacy.

Just curious, how can it be?  President Obama has done everything just opposite to his pre-election imago. True faith is a powerful thing.

Obviously I don't agree with your
assessment of the Obama presidency.

It isn't difficult to have faith in a
person whose basic competency
and decency you respect.

I don't have expectations that any
president is going to be Jesus,
Superman and the Lone Ranger all
rolled into one. And anyone from
either party who has those expectations
of a president will be sorely
disappointed.

I'm a Democrat I don't think Obama
is the Anti-Christ. This helps keep
things on a more even keel.

The first president I voted for was
Clinton. I've never felt I voted for the
lesser of two evils when voting for
president.

I'll add to that I not only have faith
in the president but I have faith in
my country as well. We've weathered
storms as a nation and there will
always be storms. But as I said in
another thread the dogs bark but
the caravan moves on.

People who genuinely believe that
the Obama presidency is the worst
thing that has ever happened to
America or the world need to get
out of their caves more often.
They'll be less spooked by shadows.

Changing positions is a great thing....Oh wait, wrong board for that discussion!

when, who and why, if you wanna share.

Mine was Perot, and looking back, I am not sure that was my finest hour.

Honey, there's not a damn thing to be ashamed about for that vote.

That was a flawless vote....and in answer to your question above: Perot.

He was one helluva speaker, and I think was a great president.

I cried when I voted for him against Jimmy Carter, in 1980. I still think Carter is the best human being to ever have held the office in my lifetime, but, being a great human being was just not enough. Add the fact that I was getting ready to leave for basic at Ft Jackson, and Reagan was the better choice I thought.

Reagan was a thief, an actor and a con, and tripled the debt that took us 2012 years to accumulate, in less than 8 years.

Just answering the questions posed. The askers might choose to keep theirs to the topic.

Good luck with that.
