Quadrupled, actually. And turned the largest creditor nation in the world into the largest debtor nation in the world in just eight years, with 25% of U.S. assets owned by foreign investors.

First time I was involved in a Presidential Campaign, I was in college, I thought I knew everything, and I knew that John Anderson could beat Carter and Reagan!...

LOL....I wrong headed as I could be!

I learned a lot about how things worked, how much harder it was then I had thought, and just how hopeless an independent campaign could be.

My father the staunch, organized former state wide Democratic party chair, never said a word, just smiled and shook his head at me....A LOT.

John Anderson would have been a great President.

(And my first Presidential vote.....for him).

Um McGovern? Remember that guy?

Okay so this answer so so dates me. I liked Perot too and I loved Clinton. Okay he was a horn dog but you know that's not the worst thing in the world. Especially since I am not so sure he "cheated" cuz I think him and Hill had an open relationship that was not made public.

Nixon and Clinton...you never had to worry about whether or not they were stealing from you.

(You already knew they were).

(I was being kind).

Dr. Keyes' was the last campaign for which I volunteered.

Peace and comfort,

Yes, Ross would have made a great President, if he'd ever got to finish anything he started to say.

Being a 'horn dog' wasn't what got Slick Willy in trouble...lying to the American people about it was where he went wrong. He should have just said 'Yeah, she sucked me off, and it was great.'

You're probably right about the open relationship. Wonder who Hillery was doing?

All in all, though, Clinton was a good President.

My guess? Nancy Pelosi

Personally, I think Frank Zappa could have made a great President. At least we wouldn't have been surprised by the amount of buttfucking that was going on.

For me it was Ronald Reagon. Jimmy Carter made a mess of the military. Inflation was running at around 11%. I bought my first home at that time with interest rates nearing 16 %. Iran was holding Americans hostage . I had faith that things would turn around and they did. I might add, those hostages were released the day Reagon was sworn in.

Then again, PolitiFact quotes Stephen Kinzer, a former New York Times reporter who now teaches at Boston University and authored the book, Reset: Iran, Turkey, and America’s Future: ”My guess is that the hostages would have been released even if someone else had been inaugurated — anyone but Carter. The Iranians had come to hate Carter and didn’t want to give him a triumph. Giving it to someone else was fine with them.” That, too, seems not only plausible but matches my contemporaneous recollection. (Granted, I was 15 at the time. But the Iran Hostage Crisis and the Election of 1980 were seminal events in my political awakening.)

Just thought I'd throw that in.

Yeah, Clinton cheat and lied about it. Bush (junior) lied about WMDs in Iraq. After 4,000+ dead US Soldiers, 25,000+ long term / perament injured soldiers, 100,000+ Civilians 'put to the sword', and over $4 Trillion of borrowed money spent; Republicans never held him accountable or responsible (cus they were in on the conspiracy as well). Notice a difference? Clinton's lie didnt cost anyone their life, limb, or take home pay.

I would agree with that but, I also think that Iran knew that Reagan wasn't going to screw around and they weren't taking any chances.

Actually it can be argued that they knew he would play ball. Never forget that within a few years his government, with at least his wink and a nod aquiesance, was selling the Iranians weapons in exchange for the release of hostages held by their terror groups in Lebanon.

Bill Clinton. And now again President Obama.

Didn't help that he lied under oath.

Carter had done his best to make people believe that Reagan was just looking for an excuse to nuke some one. You remember the joke
What's radioactive and covered with glass on Jan 21
Iran
But to be fair part of their motivation was to humiliate Carter one more time.

Plus they had to catch Reagan before his nap.

He'd probably have been even worse at diplomacy than the chimp was, sadly. (It would be entertaining to see what all the rightists who are forever bitching about teh Kenyan being an intellectual elitist would have made of Zappa, though.)

That said, his political career in the '90s didn't last very long, did it? Though to be fair, that was more down Dan Quayle throwing a tantrum than Zappa not being competent...

Hmmmm Regan was exciting. I was in the 3rd grade and even we held elections in the classroom. The most entertaining was when Gore lost. I could almost picture him scratching his head saying I know we stuffed enough ballets in there for me to win. xD the Sore Looserman motto was just too funny.
