Most people have what's called a "High Light" in there life that they will continue to reminise about. It could be High School, College, Millitary Days, Rock Tours, Riding with Hells Angels, Hippie Parties and Wood Stock, as well as any other experiences in there life.

As it turns out, flying Air Force One just happens to be his "High Light" which he likes to talk about the most. Maybe he is lying, but even if that's the case, who would give a damn?

understood. it's just that the few people i know who have security-related jobs in the military generally don't tend to discuss it a lot. now, i know guys who like to tell sea stories and such, but to me that's different. *shrugs*

I have a friend who was Post Master general of OKC and was also in the air force. Now he is a very interesting man that became a minister and retired into a quite life. He said there were things going on Post Offices that he couldn’t talk about and would get real nervous when he thought he said too much. Now he is a much older man and a joy to talk to. The kind that actually listens instead of just waiting for his turn to talk.

Now the fella in question is about 40 and talks endlessly about being shot down in Grenada and hiking for 3 months out of the desert, ordering Big Bush to put out his cigar on Air force 1 and so on and so forth. Now I haven’t ever been in the military, I broke my back 2 weeks before sign in day, but I have been privy to stuff that I am not suppose to talk about (damn evil oil companies and politicians) and try real hard not to. And if you have chatted with me on IM you know I’m Sir TalksAlot form nevershutumup.

As for him impressing my SO, I really don’t think so. She comes home every Monday just stymied by the talk.

Now, I'm usually a lot more sure when I say something happened than when I way it didn't, but I only recall three choppers going down in Grenada and not one fixed wing casuality.

I assume he wasn't hiking three months out of the desert after being shot down in Grenada. It's kinda hard to find a desert in that place.

LOL. Yup, it's no so much the Deja Moo that is driving the question. It is that not being a Military person I am trying to fathom how much security clearance one would have to have to pilot Air Force 1. I would think that it would take a great deal to be in the pilot pool and after retiring from said pool the debriefing process would be a long one. Personally, piloting Air Force 1 wouldn’t be something I would be passing around to mixed company.

Have you forgotten about when Air Force One was shot down over the deserts of Grenada and almost blew up because the dumb ass Prez wanted to light up.... that was certainly a one of a kind really brave and handsome and don't forget courageous 747 pilot that singlehandedly killed all the russians on his way back from the head... so give the poor fucking guy a break... shine his shoes, give the boy a cigar, a couple g's, and let him borrow the Bentley as long as he needs it, jeesh the poor bastard surely deserves it, and a whole lot more! Why in hell be so tight with your appreciation, after all.... what's your best saved the prez war story?

What is it called when a helo gets "shot down"??? I've never heard any distinguishment... an aircraft down is an aircraft down... if a rotary wing helicopter aircraft went down due to hostile fire... it was "shot down"... an aircraft down.

There were actually 4 choppers shot down, a 5th bird went down after colliding with another chopper being shot down.

Their debriefing is no longer than any other, as basically you take a new oath and sign to it stating you will not divulge any classified information to which your duties allowed you access or knowledge of.... sign zee paper alt man, and you're gone... still a trusted servant as you have always been (hopefully).

Bear in mind, upon your departure for whatever reason, your access and any authorization for access to classified information, operations, flight plans, aircraft status, etc. is gone... you don't get to drop by the old shop and get on AF1 anymore... nope!

In short, the clearance level you hold, the mechanism that allows you access to what your duties entail... that same mechanism is your sworn oath to comply with the signed sworn debrief form you signed prior to departing.

Not many are aware that AF1 is always accompanied by AF2, her backup. AF2 is usually within a 100 miles of AF1, whether AF1 is airborne or AF1 having landed somewhere besides it's home field in DC.
