playfulotter -> Foot Fetish...Why? (7/14/2012 6:50:57 PM)

Does anyone know if there is a scientific reason behind men having a foot fetish? I think I am sure men have this fetish more than women..for me it is a turn off I was wondering what it is all about...A Dom I might have met told me the same thing today so that is why I am wondering....Any answers?

According to Wikipedia:
quote:

Some researchers have hypothesized that foot fetishism increases as a response to epidemics of sexually transmitted diseases. In one study, conducted by Dr. A James Giannini at Ohio State University[9] an increased interest in feet as sexual objects was observed during the great gonorrhea epidemic of twelfth century Europe, and the syphilis epidemics of the 16th and 19th centuries in Europe. In the same study, the frequency of foot-fetish depictions in pornographic literature was measured over a 30 year interval. An exponential increase was noted during the period of the current AIDS epidemic. In these cases, sexual foot play was viewed as a safe-sex alternative. However, the researchers noted that these epidemics overlapped periods of relative female emancipation.[10] Sexual focus on female feet was also hypothesized to have been a reflection of a more dominant posture of the woman in sexual-social relations. (The first surviving mention of foot fetish is by Bertold of Regensburg in 1220.)[11]

Neurologist Vilayanur S. Ramachandran proposed that foot fetishism is caused by the feet and the genitals occupying adjacent areas of the somatosensory cortex, possibly entailing some neural crosstalk between the two.[12]

There is actually a mix up in your brain.

The popular theory as to why it's one of the more popular ones out there In the brain, the region that controls sexual stimulation borders the area that controls the feet. A simple mix-up between those types of messages thus can lead to a foot fetish.

Heres something I found off the web that came with a diagram which shows where certain regions are within the brain - with the foot and genitalia being right next to each other.

"Sex nerd Emily Nagoski floats a possible explanation for the common foot fetish, and publishes an awesome diagram of the brain: "The somatosensory homunculus is the sensory map of your brain in your body," she writes. "You’ll notice that the feet are immediately adjacent to the genitals. So even though your feet are at one end of you actual body and your genitals are in the middle, as far as your brain is concerned, they’re right next to each other." And even if Nagoski is wrong, she notes that the somatosensory homunculus is "fun to say and makes you sound like a real smarty pants too."

Oh wow...it's been years since I've seen that pic!

But your explanation of foot fetishes makes me wonder how you would explain balloon fetishists. ;)

possibly as stand ins for the balls?

Since you asked. [8D]

quote:

Like many paraphilias, the origins of a balloon fetish are complex and vary between individuals, but may be explained as a form of sexual imprinting. Many "looners" attribute their fetish to early sexual or pre-sexual experiences with balloons, often involving their being burst by members of the desirable sex[6]. These experiences frequently accompany or instigate a phobia of balloons in the individual, most often associated with the sudden loud noise when they burst, a form of ligyrophobia. Psychologists recognize a deep link between phobia and fetishism[10], but this link is not completely understood.

Depending on the extent to which this phobia persists through and after puberty, balloon fetishists may regard balloons bursting as either essential to the sexual experience (and frequently refer to themselves as poppers), or to be avoided at all costs (as non-poppers). Even those who are not phobic of the act of a balloon popping may prefer not to pop due to an anthropomorphized emotional attachment to the balloon. One hallmark of the distinction between poppers and non-poppers may be in seeing balloons' bursting either as a metaphor for orgasm, or as a metaphor for death.[citation needed]

That popping balloons is central to several popular party games suggests that enjoyment of the act, the challenge, and the anticipation of popping is not confined to fetishists. However, for fetishists the adrenaline rush associated with the "danger" that a balloon will pop produces a sexual response. This helps to explain why even non-poppers who have an intense phobia of balloons popping in non-sexual contexts may be aroused by the possibility within safe sexual contexts. It may even suggest that balloon fetish, for poppers and non-poppers alike, is part of the BDSM spectrum of fetishes in which a controlled amount of danger is used to elicit a pleasurable fight-or-flight response in participants

DeviantlyD -> RE: Foot Fetish...Why? (7/15/2012 12:41:46 AM)

Well, from what I saw on "Strange Sex", my guess is no. ;)

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: Foot Fetish...Why? (7/15/2012 3:21:34 AM)

Why not?

People attach all sorts of things to sex. It's pretty much the definition of 'fetish.'

Sexual impression, proximity of sections of the brain, nature, nurture, no one _really_ knows. Every psychologist has his own pet theory but none of those theories describes every case.

Follow the thread per who I was replying to....it was to greedy, not littlewonder. ;)

I hit the fast reply at the bottom of the page. Or thought I did.

My comment was in response to the thread in general.

Ah, okay. It seemed like you might be replying to me....since...ya know...it said "(in reply to DeviantlyD)" in your response. :P

demonbound12 -> RE: Foot Fetish...Why? (7/15/2012 5:35:39 AM)

I've wondered the same. It has always been strange to me how I seem to have a little fetish with feet. Growing up I was like many, HATED feet, wanted nothing to do with them, hated it if they touched me, etc. Now, its completely opposite. Feet can actually make or break if I find someone attractive. It takes more than feet to get me going but I love them when they are sexy. Had you asked me if this could ever be the case when I was in high school I would have called you insane. Now I want to dig deeper and find out what triggered this change for me and why. Again I'm glad I found this forum, others that I looked at were pretty much dead, a ton of hits on a topic but 2 replies. Here you guys actually use your brains and talk, and for that i say thank you!!!

Scientifically speaking:
Everyone knows feet sometimes smell like cheese.
We also know cheese is good food.
Everyone knows about toe jam.
Although some prefer jelly, most like jam.
Men generally eat more food than women.
So men are preoccupied with women's feet because they subliminally associate them with good food, whether the feet in question smell like cheese or have toe jam at the time.

I hope that splains' it to you in scientific terms.

~FR~
Is there ever a logical reason behind ANY fetish? Probably not.

RS, you just put me off food for a week. Hope your happy.

SexyThoughts -> RE: Foot Fetish...Why? (7/16/2012 12:37:10 AM)

Just as an aside. Some women do have a thing for guys feet or rather the pheromones coming off them. It's the same stuff that comes out of armpits. And which is allegedly linked to reduced PMS and happier feelings in women. But that may just be due to the surveyed women getting a free hug with every man smell.

tiemetight247 -> RE: Foot Fetish...Why? (7/16/2012 2:09:22 AM)

all i can say is`` it nice to have your feet and hands admired and appreciated. Not to mention the fact that a hot wet mouth licking,sucking and nibbling on every part of my feet is heaven ..feels delicious! and oh what fun to literally "put my foot in his mouth"
