Without the NRA You would have been regulated to muzzle loaders long time ago.

Without the NRA, people would be buying guns responsibly, with waiting periods and background checks, and not stocking up at gun shows -- like Holmes just did.

You keep going on about that...but the fact remains that it varies by state and a lot of states already have waiting periods and background checks......whether the guns are bought at a gun show or not.

At gun shows you need a background check if you buy from a dealer. If I Buy from my neighbor either across the fence or a a gun show I don't as long the transfer is legal in the state.

No, not in all cases, in fact, not in most cases, you fill it out and they work it out later, in the meantime, you are gone with the gun.

That is the gunshow loophole that the legislators, for years, and years, and years (since around mid 70s) have been trying to close.

And before anybody blowholes some stupid shit at me, I am an FFL and am very knowledgeable about ALL gun laws. I buy and sell them for a living.

Not in California. Even private party sales have to go through an FFL with a standard 10 day wait and background check.

yeah, but believe me, like locks, it keeps the honest people honest, if they got it without paper they are many of them running stopsigns as it were.

Most laws only keep the honest people honest. I know at the local gun show, you cannot bring a weapon into the show without it being logged by the sheriff. (All bags are checked on the way into the show.) If someone else leaves with that weapon, it will get noticed.

So, really, the only way to sell at the gun show without going through an FFL, would be a parking lot deal which actually has nothing to do with the gun show.

The AR-15 used in Colorado for example was designed and built for the US military.....I'd say that makes it an assault weapon....The military rarely buys weapons not made to KILL PEOPLE....I'd say killing is indeed assault.

You can make your own definitions but it doesn't make them official. M16's are produced for the military, theAR15 is a semi-auto look alike produced for civillians.

Bullshit

Armalite made the AR-15 to sell to the military. The entire history of the AR-15 is tied to selling a rifle to the US military. The immediate predecessor to the AR-15 was the AR-10 (essentially a 7.62N weapon that looks almost exactly like an AR-15) which was rejected by the US Army back in th 1950's. The AR-15 was developed at the direct request of General Willard Wyman as an entrant to the .223 caliber weapon program.

Thanks for the little tid big on gun history but what I stated is correct. The M 16 is military and the Ar 15 is a semi auto look alike. So bullshit on your bullshit.

Wrong again.

The designation M16 is simply what the military calls the selective fire AR-15's they bought. It's like how the M9 is also the Beretta 92F.

You want to go round and round over semantics then have a blast. The point I was making on my original post is the semi-auto that civillains can buy will be designated as AR-15. The military select fire version will be designated M-16 and mainly the fact that the semi-auto version is by definition not an assault rifle. Good Grief.

I remain unconvinced that honest people need locks to keep them honest...the only purpose of a lock is to slow down the amature thief.

At the gun shows here, you may bring in a firearm. There are Sheriffs at the door and walking around. At the door, they will make sure the weapon is not loaded, and put a big fat wiretie through it with the bolt back, or if its semi auto, pull the carriage back and put a wiretie in through that. And you DO NOT remove that wirtetie for any reason inside the gunshow.

I didn't read through these so I am assuming the above to be true.

But if anyone ever wanted to shoot a 6,000 round per minute mini gun or any other fully automatic weapon, twice a year there is a machine gun shoot just outside of Louisville. Almost every gun you can imagine is available to shoot, from gatling guns and liquid cooled Brownings, to mini guns. . . . . You buy the ammo from the owner. I can't afford to drop that kinda cash for a few seconds myself, but plenty of people do. It is quite an experience if nothing else . . .

One of the last places in the fucking universe you wanna open up on the fuckin people that cause you to see psychedelic shit coming out your orifices is a gun show.

It wouldn't be your best day on earth.

And I will add, ANY gun shop near me . . . . .

Especially Knob Creek. Then you would have the customers AND the employees drawing a bead on you. HOp skip and a jump from Fort Knox. I have often seen active duty soldiers with their buddies, wives or girlfriends out there . . . . some of these girls shoot better than their soldier boy hubbies.

Didn't work that way anytime I bought a gun at a show.

mnottertail -> RE: Gun Control Saving or Costing Lives? (7/23/2012 6:03:51 PM)

And that can happen, but the gun show loophole is there and you can drive a truck thru it. It ain't at all imaginary.

But to the NRA, complete deregulation is more important than lives.

I own guns and think the NRA is insane.

Without the NRA You would have been regulated to muzzle loaders long time ago.

I have a muzzle loader, it is wick type, meaning there is a long cord with urine on it that cause the spark to ignite the gun powder, it fun, I enjoy it, and no I am not a member of the NRA...

The AR-15 is by definition an assault rifle. It is a lighter weight weapon firing a high velocity low caliber cartridge. It is lighter than the traditional battle rifle, for instance FN-FAL or M14, but heavier than the present generation of submachineguns.

In order for it to be an assult rifle it must be capable of automatic fire.

Black powder is not regulated or considered a regulated firearm at the federal level, even most convicted felons can own them.

The technical term for that gun is a matchlock.

A corection of an much earlier statement ABC strikes again "Is this Ilene Holmes who's son lives in Aurora Co? Yes you have the right person." And then they repoerted that she said they had the right person for committing the shootings. Apperantly the only people who saw anything wrong with Holmes was the gun club he tried to join. Has ABC gotten anything right on this?
