Yanno ... I didn't post that update in order to re-open the debate.  I'm aware that the mods frown on that sort of thing.  I just thought people might be interested to know, a year and a half after all this impassioned debate, that the issue didn't die and might be resolved soon.  Of course, if people want to add their opinion now that we're doing this a second time around, they're free to do so.  BUT AT LEAST READ THE RELEVANT TEXT BEFORE COMMENTING.  It's not "someone" who is dragging him into a hearing.  It's the Commission on Human Relations that filed a complaint all on its own.

PHILADELPHIA- A Philadelphia agency has ruled that English-only signs at a famous cheesesteak shop are not discriminatory.

The Commission on Human Relations says in its Wednesday ruling that the sign at Geno's Steaks does not violate the city's Fair Practices Ordinance.

Joe Vento posted the signs at his shop in October 2005. They read "This is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH.' "

Critics allege the policy discourages customers of certain backgrounds from eating there. They say the signs discourage non-English speakers from going to the shop.

Vento says he has never refused service to anyone because they couldn't speak English.

I think the important thing to remember here is that the steak's at Geno's aren't that great anyway.
As a nativeborn Philadelphian I have a natural disdain for the major tourist places.

I have been teaching that lesson for years in my English classes in other countries.  Thank god they don't have the same standards... I'd starve in Korea!
