Owners should be taxed for the possession of guns. These taxes should be used to cover the medical and rehabilitation costs of gun victims.

No they shouldn't since it's mostly criminals who didn't buy their guns legally doing the shooting.

So you support such measures as closing the Gun Show Loophole to prevent guns from getting into the hands of these criminals? What's your suggest for the leading source of illegally diverted guns, straw purchasers?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_shows_in_the_United_States

...In 2000, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) published the "Following the Gun" report.[18] The ATF analyzed more than 1,530 trafficking investigations over a two-and-a-half-year period and found gun shows to be the second leading source of illegally diverted guns in the nation. "Straw purchasing was the most common channel in trafficking investigations."[19] These investigations involved a total of 84,128 firearms that had been diverted from legal to illegal commerce. All told, the report identified more than 26,000 firearms that had been illegally trafficked through gun shows in 212 separate investigations. The report stated that: "A prior review of ATF gun show investigations shows that prohibited persons, such as convicted felons and juveniles, do personally buy firearms at gun shows and gun shows are sources of firearms that are trafficked to such prohibited persons. The gun show review found that firearms were diverted at and through gun shows by straw purchasers, unregulated private sellers, and licensed dealers. Felons were associated with selling or purchasing firearms in 46 percent of the gun show investigations. Firearms that were illegally diverted at or through gun shows were recovered in subsequent crimes, including homicide and robbery, in more than a third of the gun show investigations."...

And if the new tax pushes the price of guns out of the range of some poor people... fuck em! Poor people don't deserve to exercise their rights anyway.

Wait a sec... I've just had an awesome idea... a tax on poor people to cover the price of all the welfare payments and medicaid.

Bwahahahaha

I love it, it sounds like something a progressive like Boxer or Pelosi would propose.

I am pretty sure that they are demopubs.

[...] Gun Show Loophole [...]

See? This is why I love you. [:D]

That would definitely be one hole in the bucket to plug.

Granted, shows are important to a hobby, but it needn't be worse than having police issue a disposable photo-id card saying you're eligible to buy at the gun show, and then bringing that (or any other suitable documentation) to the show if you're going to buy something there. Should cut most of that problem, without impacting the shows significantly. If you lack the documentation, the seller is sure to be able to point you in the direction of the nearest PD, where obtaining a card shouldn't take too long. Don't know how things work over there, but around these parts you can get a passport in an hour or two, for instance, including the time to check if you're on any lists.

Firearms never struck me as something to purchase on impulse anyway.

IWYW,
— Aswad.

That wouldn't raise enough money for that.

A sensible suggestion for once! Some of that money should go for law enforcement too. Even if one has the 'right' to do something, one also has a responsibility to compensate society for the harm their 'right' does.
[sm=soapbox.gif]

But, you are potentially taxing Americans who have not done any harm to society. Simply owning a gun does not harm society. Think about which gun owners are likely to actually pay the tax and which ones aren't.

Can we tax vehicle owners because of the impact vehicles have on society?

Movie watchers for the impact movies might have on society?

Where the fuck does it end with the taxers?

Isn't that the GOP's current financial plan to deal with the deficit?

The same ATF that let guns be straw purchased in the Fast & Furious fiasco, you place your trust in them? BTW your study is twelve years out of date.

Which part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED don't you understand? I really don't have a problem with a person selling or trading firearms outside of government control, and it's a shame that you do.

How do you prove a person is a straw buyer? Criminals will always have access to guns, close the loop hole and gun smuggling will become as profitable if not more than drugs.

That's the fact that progressives can't comprehend, guns are here to stay.

Criminals will always have access to stolen goods. They should be legal! Close the loop hole and stolen goods will become as profitable is not more than drugs.

End laws! Legalize everything! Why should only criminals get to engage in criminal behavior???!!!!

That's the fact "law and order" conservatives can't comprehend; stolen goods are here to stay.

By the way, it was conservatives who undertook to enact strict drug laws.

Shoot enough thieves and we wouldn't have to worry about theft... Same with drug dealers. I love the Castle Doctrine.

You can run and hide and choose to defend yourself as a last resort, I prefer shooting the thief and teaching him that stealing is wrong.

That was intentional - to provide the allied drugs traffickers with effective weapons against the competing drugs traffickers; financed by tax payer's money of course.

It's working so well in Somalia and Afghanistan.

Both sentences are wrong. Not all taxes are bad, and some level of taxation is necessary. Would it save a lot on bureaucracy? I don't think so. ending all taxes won't stop the spending. We are outspending our collections already.

You are mistaken once again. It was not the atf but rather the local state and local prosecutors who refused to prosecute in arizona. This was pointed out to you in a previous thread. Have you forgotten that you were wrong there and once again you are wrong here.

Here your post seems to be self contracictory. First you accuse the atf and justice dept of letting these straw purchases to happen and here you say it cannot be stopped. The bullshit that abounds in your post is manifest.

Why do you feel that the death penality is appropriate for dealing drugs and theft?
