We do need gun regulation!

Handcuffed man shot twice by San Francisco police - witness reports
by RT
Wednesday Jul 18th, 2012 3:46 PM

Officers with the San Francisco Police Department in Northern California shot a man believed to have a knife this morning, but preliminary reports suggest that the victim was in handcuffs while the authorities opened fire.

Police officers with the SFPD allegedly opened fire on a man armed with a knife at around 10:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday after responding to reports that someone had been stabbed near the city’s Pier 17.

The Bay City News Service reported minutes later that there was an “officer-involved” shooting but did provide any other details. The San Francisco Chronicle reported at 11:30 a.m. local time that the man was shot by police after he refused to drop a knife that they believe was used in a stabbing earlier that morning. Fire Department Capt. Jeanne Seyler confirms to the paper that the victim was being transported for life threatening wounds, but did not provide any more details.

A video uploaded to YouTube less than 30 minutes after that report includes a testimony from an eyewitness who alleges that the police shot the suspect after placing him in handcuffs.

“So what happened here?” the cameraman asks an unidentified witness.

“The police shot somebody. In the chest, twice,” he responds. “They said that the man had a gun or something but he didn’t. He was just a civilian.”

“What was he doing?” the videographer asks.

“Nothing. They had him in cuffs. And they shot him. Twice.”

“They shot him in cuffs?” he asks in bewilderment.

The cameraman that runs over to talk to police officers on the scene for confirmation that the man was cuffed before being shot but the cops refuse to answer.

At 12 noon local time, the cameraman uploaded a second video to YouTube with different witnesses confirming the account.

In the second video, a new witness says “a female officer with fucking short blonde hair” opened fire on the suspect.

“While he was in handcuffs?” the cameraman asks.

“Yes.” He confirms.

“And you witnessed this?”

“I saw this.”

The witness alleges that the officer in question shot the man twice in the chest. A third witness caught on film confirms reports that the victim was handcuffed during the shooting.

Only two days earlier, protesters in San Francisco disrupted service on the local transportation system in remembrance of Kenneth Harding, a 19 year old that was shot and killed one year earlier during a standoff with the police. Local law enforcement has still been at odds with the community in recent times, especially since a New Year’s Day 2009 incident in nearby Oakland sparked nationwide protests.

In the early morning hours of January 1, 2009, Officer Johannes Mehserle of the Bay Area Rapid Transit Police shot and killed 22-year-old Oscar Grant after detaining him in handcuffs.Mehserle served 11 months in jail for the crime.

I thought that only happened in Oakland! I say we ban California, that would put an end to the shenanigans.

It's really Mexico anyway. Take Texas with them. Solve a load of problems right there.

we need better gun control laws, but not for the occasional nut case but for the every day situations.

Wasting a kid over busfare?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuVzkSq7zd8

but that does pose an interesting question.

What would happen if people started shooting back? The cops did murder that nice black kid and that wasting that totally innocent 7 year old black gurl was sickening.

I don't suppose you'd care to offer some facts of the case, instead of hysterics on Youtube, would you, Real? After seeing that one Aurora survivor with a big grin on her face cuz she gets to be on tv, talking about the shot baby, I'm not ready for too much eyewitness bullshit right now.

There are bad, brutal cops polluting the profession everywhere. This guy may have been executed on a whim by such. Or, just as easily, and probably more likely, he could have been crazy, or high, and still very much a threat.

sure anyone alive who does not suck dick on command is a threat to a lunatic cop and there are plenty out there as we can see. Look at the guy in the wheel chair, the guy in the terminal and you can find cops blowing people away for no good reason and then lying about it to cover their asses ad infinitum.

Its unfortunate your impression of little kids getting shot by mobsters operating under your sanction is so aloof.

I am not in the mood for anyone to down play the seriousness of this shit.

nice mischaracterization. yes the gubafia needs more regulations to control their use of guns and other torture devices that you sanction.

With cops that think just because they have a badge that gives them a license to kill people need less gun regulation and cops should have them taken away and reduced to administerial duties if they are smart enough to read and write.

So then, we can take that as a "no," regarding anything more substantial than what you've provided, Real?

Have a lovely evening.

Handcuffs are dangerous when in the wrong hands. Ban them.

Not only that, but if CA is banned the republicans won't have to worry about the 55 electorial votes that always go to the democrat.

California was solidly Republican until Reagan and Bush I finally succeeded in turning it blue since Clinton:

like duh!

it was in reference to what you said that you edited out.

If you were an attorney I would impose sanctions, and as much as I deplore attorneys at least most of them get the 2nd correct so if you cant get past an iq 60 understanding why even bother.

Arguably, that is one of the legitimate uses of a firearm, if and only if, the police are abusing their monopoly on violence. Like with any other monopoly, if it becomes detrimental to the population, you break that monopoly. It does, however, call for calmer heads than those I've seen in most of the gun control debates here for such a thing to be beneficial to the population.

As a rule, police around the world have good intentions, but a variable porportion of bad apples. If they had incentive (no, guns aren't what I have in mind) to rid themselves of the bad apples, intstead of banding together in a collective defense of anyone in blue, we would see far fewer of these cases. Working on figuring a good- and viable- solution to that problem seems a better use of time than talking about shooting police or having guns on hand for that express purpose.

IWYW,
— Aswad.
