Let's say... you can become smarter but only by getting uglier. Do you do it? What about getting more attractive by becoming dumber?

I picked middle of the line. However, if I were to be dumber but more attractive, is there the possibility of still learning new things?

Yes. I want my cake and to eat it too.

Sorry, no. If you pick dumb, you stay dumb.

Sooo, basically what I am now. lol
hhmm...let me think about that. How much dumber? How much smarter? I would loose a little intelligence for being a little more attractive.
I have a feeling I would go with losing my smarts to be more attractive. I'm too vain and I already feel dumb most of the time anyway.

Hmmm tough one, I am really a person who
constantly tries to improve my mind, one of my
biggest peeves are people with closed minds,
saying you have to stay at whatever level of
Intelegance you choose is something I can't do.

Exploring ideas, searching for the answers to
questions, increasing my mental horizons...
I couldn't live another way.

But for the sake of the poll I went with average.

Okay, now I know you're a smartass because you're neither of those things. :)

As to the question in the OP...I don't know how to answer...there is no clear winner in that lot of choices.

Fortunately it isn't an either-or type deal in reality.

If I had to choose and as a woman then I would rather be attractive. If I were a man I would go with exceptional intelligence.

Although if exceptionally smart also came with exceptional wealth then that could tip Me the other way.

I went for moderately smart, moderately ugly.

Up until the age of 15 I was very very shy with girls. I wasn't "good looking", and felt that that was a big barrier. Then I had a brief "thang" with the older sister of one of my school mates.

I couldn't understand why she (at 17) could possibly find plain old me attractive, but in the end I realised... smart + funny = sexey

As long as my appearance wasn't off-putting, I could beat any of the buff jocks (the term in the uk is "rugger-buggers") to any chick I wanted.

Her name was Claudia. And I do hope she's doing very well.

I would rather be intelligent than beautiful but I am lucky enough to already be female....so it works itself out

Using FR:

I tried to pick extremely intelligent and female, it wouldn't let me. Either that or I misclicked. I prefer smarts, I AM smart, I know how helpful it is in every aspect of your life.

As for as the physical attractiveness, I see looks as being far more than that. It's all about who you are. Who I am shines through, the outer shell hardly matters to me.

I'm all about the middle path these days so
average/average is fine with me. Just enough
sense to stay out of the fire and presentable
enough not to frighten the horses in the street.

There have been times in my life when I've
thought I would be happier if I were dumber.
It's an irrational thought as I'm aware
of the long list of things I'm profoundly
dumb about and I know dumb people
can be very unhappy just as intelligent
people can be very unhappy.

Great beauty has a great power rush
no doubt but outer society standard beauty
is transient and it must be devasting
when it starts to go. And if you haven't
bothered with developing other aspects
of yourself you are in a sticky wicket.

I'm interested in peace, happiness, living
a life of gratitude, giving back, letting go,
being creative, being a decent human being.
I'm seeking self knowledge and wisdom but
I don't think that requires a high IQ.
Sometimes great intelligence brings great
blindspots. And great beauty bring it's
own baggage. So, philosophically speaking
I'm zen on the smarts and looks thing.
I have other dragons to fight and other
shores to explore.

That's what I went with. I like to balance all things to some degree, but if I had to choose between being smart (being happy for myself) and being pretty (to please others, because I just don't care that much about how I look), I'll take the former.

If I needed approval of my appearance from others this might have been more of a poser, it just doesn't apply so much to me.

Even then, I think I'd pick being smart over pretty because after people are done adoring me and I'm on my own, I still have to take care of myself. If I'm dumb as a bag of rocks, I'm not so likely to be able to take care of myself, and that's totally not my thing.

Now if you wanted to hyperbole this sucker and ask me if I wanted my partner to be smart or pretty, I'd say she's already both But if asked whether I'm more attracted to her mind or body, while it's still both, her mind is more interesting. (This doesn't change the fact that I have a few costume ideas for her. No, no it doesn't.)

I think I would pick smarter and uglier.  While I know it's not all about what's on the inside, to me, my mind is much more important.  I'm aging, my looks are likely to go south as I go along anyway.  But, a smart lady knows how to cover her flaws, how to apply makeup to her advantage and how to work whatever it is she has.  I'd take my ugliness and own it...lol.  Work it, baby!!!  A smart mind would serve ~me~ better than a beautiful body.

As for what others would think of my hideosity (yes, I know, I made the word up, I felt like it...lol)?  I have always found a brilliant mind a huge turn on, while I doubt ~most~ guys would prefer that, I think I'd rather find one who did and wanted me in spite of my ugliness than the other way around.
