Female users can get up to several hundred messages a month.

When I was looking, the messages I got had better be pretty damn good to merit a response.

Not only would I expect some thoughtful notes based on my profile, I would expect the person messaging me to have a thoughtful profile.

The thread referenced above is amazing.

However, in the end online personal sites are natural selection in action. For some no amount of advice will help, if the receiver does not have the brains to follow it.

Actually, I think right there that is the problem more often than not. Both you and I, each for our own reasons, want to engage at the human level before anything else is really possible or desired. So the messages we write reflect that. If I was cold-calling someone, there would be some reason for it beyond simply "wow, great tits". Whatever that reason was would be the obvious thing I'd be writing about in my message.

In short, I think we avoid the horny net geek filters because we're not horny net geeks.
