I think that's the real "training rub" MercTech. People talk about "training their sub" without discussing what, exactly, gaps are being addressed. What the heck is "generic training" anyway? What.. just getting "trained"? That's why UnownedCOBeauty was confused. Because it's nonsensical. Your list, however, makes perfect sense and never would've spawned this thread. I think you're the best non-true dom I know of Jeff... but I'm not sure there's a market for people wanting NOT to be a true dom.

I was going to say you should write the opposite of what you think and make a true-dom training package... but surely a TRUE dom doesn't need training, right?

Awww, thanks! I'm quite proud to be a crappy dom. And I suspect you're right. There probbaly isn't a huge market for people wanting to be trained to be fake doms. That's too bad really because I happen to know for a fact that there's a pretty big market of sub/slaves who'd like a fake dom. They send me nice messages regularly.

How it Works : He said, "Hey, we aren't required to live by anybody's "training" or "protocol" rules except our own... we are entirely free to make it what it is for us as it goes along....I'll let ya know, ok?" i.e. the grocery-store thingy, "I want you here, with me, at all times, unless I tell you otherwise." There are just things he expected, and he made them clear and firm. Jeff this is the best slave training guide I've ever seen. It was actually my very first introduction to BDSM ever in the form of the very first BDSM site I ever found back in the 90s.

I still reference it in my marriage today.

*nods* I didn't, obviously, read the whole thing but what parts I scanned actually seemed sensible. Although it's probably wise of me to say what "sensible" looks like to me. My own opinion is that leadership is leadership. So if I want to know about "leadership" then I'd rather just go to the real experts and I can find their works readily in the business aisle of the book store. I'd rather find out what people who really know how to effectively motivate and bind people think about the topic.

So that being said, what I read there looks pretty solid from a normal leadership standpoint... things like "integrating their goals with yours" are the tip-offs.

I don't think that the concept of "slave training" is meaningless... I never have. I definitely did SOMETHING to Carol... as submissive as her default personality is... to get her from that to "What Jeff thinks is right, IS right." I just don't think of it as "training her". I thought of it as "leading her". Frankly, I saw it much the same as I would if I'd been given a new team at work. OK, let's get a mission & vision statement. Let's make sure we all buy into that. Then let's start breaking it all down into a project plan and start working the details. I personally am not particularly surprised that the advice of folks like Colin Powell turns out to be pretty good when it comes to leading people.

What I DO think is that the word "training", much like all the other words, "honor", "respect", "trust".. heck... pretty much 99% of the english language... have been redefined to fit the needs of BDSM. I think "BDSM training" is useless except for getting everybody all wet & hard. I think real training targeted at some BDSM goal is perfectly reasonable.

Nah, it's LEARNING that needs to be happening.

Everyone needs to be doing it. How can you know how to operate an entire person without learning. You cannot read the freakin' manual. How can you learn how to make every single recess of your being available to someone else?

Ok, there are manuals. You could read them to each other. One of you naked, and the other with a ruler in their hand.

But pay attention, there will be a test. And if you fail, some very precious person will have to go find someone who wants a person badly enough to learn to make it happen.
