FR So let me get this straight, Big Pharma can't make big money using Embrel (perispinal etanercept) to treat Alzheimers? Maybe you should contact Wyeth, Amgen and Pfizer who sell the stuff and tell them they can't make any more billions off it. When you make billions on people being sick I will never trust you. Same goes for the weapons industry, they make money on war. Why should I trust anybody who deals in death?

Mr Brown was cured by having all of his marrow destroyed by full body radiation and then getting a bone marrow transplant from a donor that has a mutation that makes him imune to AIDS. This wasn't some drug or easily reproducable treatment. The only reason this treatment was even tried is because the guy also had developed luekemia which required the bone marrow transplant. His doctors found a tissue match that also had this rather rare mutation and took a chance. As someone on the transplant list I can tell you that there aren't enough tissue donors to meet present need so even if we wanted to try this on a grand scale we'd never be ble to recruit enough donors willing to be gene typed to identify the rare few with the right gene to find tissue matches for all the people who are HIV+. As to no one doing research on curing or preventing HIV infections, I suggest you take that up with Abbie Smith (since she is doing that very research) http://scienceblogs.com/erv/

It's not a rare mutation, 10% of northern europeans have the delta 32 gene which makes them immune to aids, wich was an immune sytem against the plague, we can grow stemcells right? You need a reinforced delta 32 to get strong resistance to HIV. That occurs in less than 5% of Northern Europeans and is even rarer in other populations. Now you need to find those people and tissue match them to all the HIV+ positive people. That is simply impossible.
